The pandemic highlighted significant gaps in the public health infrastructure impacted by shortages of public health workers, an undertrained workforce, and years of disinvestment. These gaps required innovative problem-solving by public health agencies (PHAs), including local health departments (LHDs), to respond to rapidly changing community conditions during and after the pandemic. Many schools and programs of public health (SPPH) worked with PHAs to mobilize public health (PH) students through practice-based teaching (PBT). Current research indicates PBT benefits all stakeholders—PHAs, students, faculty, SPPH, and ultimately the community served. However, more research is needed on the utility of PBT in addressing a community’s systemic public health issues, the extent to which the academic-community collaboration enhances a PHA’s capacity, and the impact of the pedagogy on preparing the workforce for an evolving PH landscape. This paper examines the process of a semester-long PBT course, guided by the PBT STEPS framework, which includes five steps from collaboration to implementation to evaluation of a PBT course. The collaborating PHA and its student group addressed community trauma and resilience issues during the semester. Additionally, it examines the longer-term impacts after the semester for the PHA, community, and the workforce by 1) conducting a formative evaluation to understand needs and gaps in the community;2) redesigning an intervention that merged the results of the formative evaluation with the intervention developed during the semester;and 3) securing funding and resources for intervention sustainability. Through the documentation of a post-course partnership between an LHD and faculty at a large school of public health, this case study illustrates the potential for PBT to lay the foundation for ongoing research that supports more impactful interventions for PHAs while bolstering the workforce abilities of students as future practitioners. 展开更多

The purpose of this paper is to examine the development of a curriculum in Japan to foster the agency(OECD Student Agency)necessary for children living in the future,as outlined in the OECD Education2030 Project, and the role of teachers who implement this curriculum. Therefore,I aim to achieve this goal by taking an overview of educational thought, educational systems and history, and examining several initiatives in the OECD Project and the situation of a Japanese high school that practices science and mathematics education. As a result of analyzing previous research and the narratives obtained from interviews with Teacher A(pseudonym)of a certain F High School(pseudonym),it was found that school education should not simply teach subjects, but should aim to enable student to help student exercise agency in the future. It was suggested that it is not necessary to add content to the curriculum, but rather to prepare to provide students with competencies that will enable them to use the content in various contexts, situations, and circumstances, suggesting that in order to discover such important competencies, teachers and other related parties are required to implement curricula that allow students to slowly and carefully explore the competencies surrounding the content, and to conceive and build curricula that include both hidden and intended curriculum that allows student to reflect on the curriculum they have achieved. 展开更多

Using methods such as questionnaire survey and literature review,a survey was conducted on the professional development of physical education teachers in Huaiji County under the background of the new curriculum standards. The research results found that physical education teachers in Huaiji County have a relatively good distribution structure in terms of teaching experience, age, and education level, but the gender ratio and professional title ratio need to be improved. In terms of professional competence, teachers have shown good performance in teaching implementation ability, but there is still room for improvement in teaching design ability.A certain proportion of teachers still express dissatisfaction with professional title promotion, hardware configuration satisfaction, salary and benefits, and school reward mechanisms.Based on this, this study proposes some measures to improve the professional development level of county-level physical education teachers, such as enhancing teachers teaching design and implementation abilities, strengthening the cultivation of technical action demonstration abilities, improving hardware configuration satisfaction and teaching effectiveness reflection level, strengthening guidance and support for teachers professional development, and enhancing the promotion and implementation of post employment training. 展开更多

As world events have morphed teachers’roles within English medium of instruction(EMI)contexts to incorporate more online teaching practices, teachers’integration of digital tools has faced technological and curricular challenges. While previous research has examined the integration of digital tools in face-to-face and hybrid EMI settings(e.g.,Finardi,2015;O’Dowd,2018),more research is needed to understand the familiarization process teachers engage in as they implement fully-online teaching to support their content and language integrated learning(CLIL)teaching. As part of a larger project, this case study sets out to fill this gap by examining the practices and perspectives of 30 Kazakhstani university teachers who adopted CLIL approaches while needing to adapt to fully-online teaching contexts.Using the concept of technological pedagogical content knowledge(Mishra&Koehler,2006)in tandem with Ball et al.’s(2016)seven CLIL principles as a framework, this study thematically analyzed workshop artifacts, survey responses,semi-structured interview transcripts, and videos from online class lessons to find that teachers were mediators and curators of content, language, pedagogy, and digital tools. The findings offer pedagogical insights for the implementation of professional development(PD)to prepare teachers to meaningfully curate and mediate technology into their CLIL pedagogy to teach content within EMI contexts. 展开更多
