A Fuzzy Multi-Objective Framework for Energy Optimization and Reliable Routing in Wireless Sensor Networks via Particle Swarm Optimization

Wireless Sensor Networks(WSNs)are one of the best technologies of the 21st century and have seen tremendous growth over the past decade.Much work has been put into its development in various aspects such as architectural attention,routing protocols,location exploration,time exploration,etc.This research aims to optimize routing protocols and address the challenges arising from conflicting objectives in WSN environments,such as balancing energy consumption,ensuring routing reliability,distributing network load,and selecting the shortest path.Many optimization techniques have shown success in achieving one or two objectives but struggle to achieve the right balance between multiple conflicting objectives.To address this gap,this paper proposes an innovative approach that integrates Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO)with a fuzzy multi-objective framework.The proposed method uses fuzzy logic to effectively control multiple competing objectives to represent its major development beyond existing methods that only deal with one or two objectives.The search efficiency is improved by particle swarm optimization(PSO)which overcomes the large computational requirements that serve as a major drawback of existing methods.The PSO algorithm is adapted for WSNs to optimize routing paths based on fuzzy multi-objective fitness.The fuzzy logic framework uses predefined membership functions and rule-based reasoning to adjust routing decisions.These adjustments influence PSO’s velocity updates,ensuring continuous adaptation under varying network conditions.The proposed multi-objective PSO-fuzzy model is evaluated using NS-3 simulation.The results show that the proposed model is capable of improving the network lifetime by 15.2%–22.4%,increasing the stabilization time by 18.7%–25.5%,and increasing the residual energy by 8.9%–16.2% compared to the state-of-the-art techniques.The proposed model also achieves a 15%–24% reduction in load variance,demonstrating balanced routing and extended network lifetime.Furthermore,analysis using p-values obtained from multiple performance measures(p-values<0.05)showed that the proposed approach outperforms with a high level of confidence.The proposed multi-objective PSO-fuzzy model provides a robust and scalable solution to improve the performance of WSNs.It allows stable performance in networks with 100 to 300 nodes,under varying node densities,and across different base station placements.Computational complexity analysis has shown that the method fits well into large-scale WSNs and that the addition of fuzzy logic controls the power usage to make the system practical for real-world use. 展开更多

In many Eastern and Western countries,falling birth rates have led to the gradual aging of society.Older adults are often left alone at home or live in a long-term care center,which results in them being susceptible to unsafe events(such as falls)that can have disastrous consequences.However,automatically detecting falls fromvideo data is challenging,and automatic fall detection methods usually require large volumes of training data,which can be difficult to acquire.To address this problem,video kinematic data can be used as training data,thereby avoiding the requirement of creating a large fall data set.This study integrated an improved particle swarm optimization method into a double interactively recurrent fuzzy cerebellar model articulation controller model to develop a costeffective and accurate fall detection system.First,it obtained an optical flow(OF)trajectory diagram from image sequences by using the OF method,and it solved problems related to focal length and object offset by employing the discrete Fourier transform(DFT)algorithm.Second,this study developed the D-IRFCMAC model,which combines spatial and temporal(recurrent)information.Third,it designed an IPSO(Improved Particle Swarm Optimization)algorithm that effectively strengthens the exploratory capabilities of the proposed D-IRFCMAC(Double-Interactively Recurrent Fuzzy Cerebellar Model Articulation Controller)model in the global search space.The proposed approach outperforms existing state-of-the-art methods in terms of action recognition accuracy on the UR-Fall,UP-Fall,and PRECIS HAR data sets.The UCF11 dataset had an average accuracy of 93.13%,whereas the UCF101 dataset had an average accuracy of 92.19%.The UR-Fall dataset had an accuracy of 100%,the UP-Fall dataset had an accuracy of 99.25%,and the PRECIS HAR dataset had an accuracy of 99.07%. 展开更多

In the process of identifying parameters for a permanent magnet synchronous motor,the particle swarm optimization method is prone to being stuck in local optima in the later stages of iteration,resulting in low parameter accuracy.This work proposes a fuzzy particle swarm optimization approach based on the transformation function and the filled function.This approach addresses the topic of particle swarmoptimization in parameter identification from two perspectives.Firstly,the algorithm uses a transformation function to change the form of the fitness function without changing the position of the extreme point of the fitness function,making the extreme point of the fitness function more prominent and improving the algorithm’s search ability while reducing the algorithm’s computational burden.Secondly,on the basis of themulti-loop fuzzy control systembased onmultiplemembership functions,it is merged with the filled function to improve the algorithm’s capacity to skip out of the local optimal solution.This approach can be used to identify the parameters of permanent magnet synchronous motors by sampling only the stator current,voltage,and speed data.The simulation results show that the method can effectively identify the electrical parameters of a permanent magnet synchronous motor,and it has superior global convergence performance and robustness. 展开更多

This paper proposes an artificial neural network(ANN) based software reliability model trained by novel particle swarm optimization(PSO) algorithm for enhanced forecasting of the reliability of software. The proposed ANN is developed considering the fault generation phenomenon during software testing with the fault complexity of different levels. We demonstrate the proposed model considering three types of faults residing in the software. We propose a neighborhood based fuzzy PSO algorithm for competent learning of the proposed ANN using software failure data. Fitting and prediction performances of the neighborhood fuzzy PSO based proposed neural network model are compared with the standard PSO based proposed neural network model and existing ANN based software reliability models in the literature through three real software failure data sets. We also compare the performance of the proposed PSO algorithm with the standard PSO algorithm through learning of the proposed ANN. Statistical analysis shows that the neighborhood fuzzy PSO based proposed neural network model has comparatively better fitting and predictive ability than the standard PSO based proposed neural network model and other ANN based software reliability models. Faster release of software is achievable by applying the proposed PSO based neural network model during the testing period. 展开更多

Its objective consists of combining three different heuristic optimization techniques including PID-PSO, Fuzzy-PSO and GA-PSO to improve the DSIM speed controlled loop behavior. The GA and PSO algorithms are developed and implemented into MATLAB. As a result, fuzzy-PSO is the most appropriate scheme. First, a new perturbation operator is designed, and the concepts of fuzzy global best and fuzzy personal best are given on basis of the new operator. After that, particle updating equations are revised on the basis of the two new concepts to discourage the premature convergence and enlarge the potential search space; second, the elite archiving technique is used during the process of evolution, namely, the elite particles are introduced into the swarm, whereas the inferior particles are deleted. Therefore, the quality of the swarm is ensured. Finally, the convergence of this swarm is proved. The experimental results show that the nondominated solutions found by the proposed algorithm are uniformly distributed and widely spread along the Pareto front. 展开更多

A cooperative system of a fuzzy logic model and a fuzzy neural network(CSFLMFNN)is proposed,in which a fuzzy logic model is acquired from domain experts and a fuzzy neural network is generated and prewired according to the model.Then PSO-CSFLMFNN is constructed by introducing particle swarm optimization(PSO)into the cooperative system instead of the commonly used evolutionary algorithms to evolve the prewired fuzzy neural network.The evolutionary fuzzy neural network implements accuracy fuzzy inference without rule matching.PSO-CSFLMFNN is applied to the intelligent fault diagnosis for a petrochemical engineering equipment,in which the cooperative system is proved to be effective.It is shown by the applied results that the performance of the evolutionary fuzzy neural network outperforms remarkably that of the one evolved by genetic algorithm in the convergence rate and the generalization precision. 展开更多

Wireless sensor networks(WSN)are widely used in many situations,but the disordered and random deployment mode will waste a lot of sensor resources.This paper proposes a multi-topology hierarchical collaborative particle swarm optimization(MHCHPSO)to optimize sensor deployment location and improve the coverage of WSN.MHCHPSO divides the population into three types topology:diversity topology for global exploration,fast convergence topology for local development,and collaboration topology for exploration and development.All topologies are optimized in parallel to overcome the precocious convergence of PSO.This paper compares with various heuristic algorithms at CEC 2013,CEC 2015,and CEC 2017.The experimental results show that MHCHPSO outperforms the comparison algorithms.In addition,MHCHPSO is applied to the WSN localization optimization,and the experimental results confirm the optimization ability of MHCHPSO in practical engineering problems. 展开更多

In order to solve the shortcoming premature and easily local optimum of the standard particle swarm optimization (PSO), the fuzzy adaptive criterion is applied for inertia weight based on the evolution speed factor and square deviation of fitness for the swarm, in each iteration process, the inertia weight is dynamically changed using the fuzzy rules to adapt to nonlinear optimization process. The performance of FAPSO is demonstrated on hydrothermal system comprising 1 thermal unit and 4 hydro plants, the comparison is drawn in PSO, FAPSO and genetic algorithms (GA) in terms of the solution quality and computational efficiency. The experiment showed that the proposed approach has higher quality solutions and strong ability in global search. 展开更多

Aiming at the problems of convergence-slow and convergence-free of Discrete Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm(DPSO) in solving large scale or complicated discrete problem, this article proposes Intuitionistic Fuzzy Entropy of Discrete Particle Swarm Optimization(IFDPSO) and makes it applied to Dynamic Weapon Target Assignment(WTA). First, the strategy of choosing intuitionistic fuzzy parameters of particle swarm is defined, making intuitionistic fuzzy entropy as a basic parameter for measure and velocity mutation. Second, through analyzing the defects of DPSO, an adjusting parameter for balancing two cognition, velocity mutation mechanism and position mutation strategy are designed, and then two sets of improved and derivative algorithms for IFDPSO are put forward, which ensures the IFDPSO possibly search as much as possible sub-optimal positions and its neighborhood and the algorithm ability of searching global optimal value in solving large scale 0-1 knapsack problem is intensified. Third, focusing on the problem of WTA, some parameters including dynamic parameter for shifting firepower and constraints are designed to solve the problems of weapon target assignment. In addition, WTA Optimization Model with time and resource constraints is finally set up, which also intensifies the algorithm ability of searching global and local best value in the solution of WTA problem. Finally, the superiority of IFDPSO is proved by several simulation experiments. Particularly, IFDPSO, IFDPSO1~IFDPSO3 are respectively effective in solving large scale, medium scale or strict constraint problems such as 0-1 knapsack problem and WTA problem. 展开更多

However, there are some adjustable parameters, and restrictive conditions, which can affect the performance of the algorithm. In this paper, the sufficient conditions for the asymptotic stability of an acceleration factor and inertia weight are deduced, the value of the inertia weight w is enhanced to ( 1, 1). Furthermore a new adaptive PSO algorithm - Acceleration Factor Harmonious PSO (AFHPSO) is proposed, and is proved to be a global search algorithm. AFHPSO is used for the parameter design of a fuzzy controller for a linear motor driving servo system. The performance of the nonlinear model for the servo system demonstrates the effectiveness of the optimized fuzzy controller and AFHPSO. 展开更多

However, there are some adjustable parameters and restrictive conditions which can affect performance of the algorithm. The sufficient conditions for asymptotic stability of an acceleration factor and inertia weight are deduced in this paper. The value of the inertia weight w is enhanced to ( - 1, 1). Furthermore a new adaptive PSO algorithm--harmonious PSO (HPSO) is proposed and proved that HPSO is a global search algorithm. Finally it is focused on a design task of a servo system controller. Considering the existence of model uncertainty and noise from sensors, HPSO are applied to optimize the parameters of fuzzy PID controller. Thus, they naturally inherit the merits of both IT2 FSs and NNs. Although IT2 FNNs have more advantages in processing uncertain, incomplete, or imprecise information compared to their type-1 counterparts, a large number of parameters need to be tuned in the IT2 FNNs,which increases the difficulties of their design. In this paper,big bang-big crunch(BBBC) optimization and particle swarm optimization(PSO) are applied in the parameter optimization for Takagi-Sugeno-Kang(TSK) type IT2 FNNs. The employment of the BBBC and PSO strategies can eliminate the need of backpropagation computation. The computing problem is converted to a simple feed-forward IT2 FNNs learning. The adoption of the BBBC or the PSO will not only simplify the design of the IT2 FNNs, but will also increase identification accuracy when compared with present methods. The proposed optimization based strategies are tested with three types of interval type-2 fuzzy membership functions(IT2FMFs) and deployed on three typical identification models. The advantage of fuzzy controllers in working with inaccurate and nonlinear inputs is that there is no need for an accurate mathematical model and fast convergence and minimal fluctuations in the maximum power point detector.The capability of online fuzzy tracking systems is maximum power,resistance to radiation and temperature changes,and no need for external sensors to measure radiation intensity and temperature.However,the most important issue is the constant changes in the amount of sunlight that cause the maximum power point to be constantly changing.The controller used in the maximum power point tracking(MPPT)circuit must be able to adapt to the new radiation conditions.Therefore,in this paper,to more accurately track the maximumpower point of the solar system and receive more electrical power at its output,an adaptive fuzzy control was proposed,the parameters of which are optimized by the whale algorithm.The studies have repeated under different irradiation conditions and the proposed controller performance has been compared with perturb and observe algorithm(P&O)method,which is a practical and high-performance method.To evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm,the particle swarm algorithm optimized the adaptive fuzzy controller.The simulation results show that the adaptive fuzzy control system performs better than the P&O tracking system.Higher accuracy and consequently more production power at the output of the solar panel is one of the salient features of the proposed control method,which distinguishes it from other methods.On the other hand,the adaptive fuzzy controller optimized by the whale algorithm has been able to perform relatively better than the controller designed by the particle swarm algorithm,which confirms the higher accuracy of the proposed algorithm. 展开更多

Considering twofold uncertainty combining grey and fuzzy factors, this paper proposes a hybrid uncertain programming model to optimize the supply chain production-distribution cost. The programming parameters of the material suppliers, manufacturer, distribution centers, and the customers are integrated into the presented model. On the basis of the chance measure and the credibility of grey fuzzy variable, the grey fuzzy simulation methodology was proposed to generate input-output data for the uncertain functions. The designed neural network can expedite the simulation process after trained from the generated input-output data. The improved Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm based on the Differential Evolution (DE) algorithm can optimize the uncertain programming problems. A numerical example was presented to highlight the significance of the uncertain model and the feasibility of the solution strategy. 展开更多

The position control system of an electro-hydraulic actuator system (EHAS) is investigated in this paper. The EHAS is developed by taking into consideration the nonlinearities of the system: the friction and the internal leakage. A variable load that simulates a realistic load in robotic excavator is taken as the trajectory reference. A method of control strategy that is implemented by employing a fuzzy logic controller (FLC) whose parameters are optimized using particle swarm optimization (PSO) is proposed. The scaling factors of the fuzzy inference system are tuned to obtain the optimal values which yield the best system performance. The simulation results show that the FLC is able to track the trajectory reference accurately for a range of values of orifice opening. Beyond that range, the orifice opening may introduce chattering, which the FLC alone is not sufficient to overcome. The PSO optimized FLC can reduce the chattering significantly. This result justifies the implementation of the proposed method in position control of EHAS. 展开更多
