The hydroelastic behavior of a moored oil storage vessel subjected to arbitrary time-dependent external loads,which include wind,waves,and currents with different incident directions,is investigated with the time-doma...The hydroelastic behavior of a moored oil storage vessel subjected to arbitrary time-dependent external loads,which include wind,waves,and currents with different incident directions,is investigated with the time-domain modal expansion method.First,the water boundary integral equations on the body surface of a quarter model,which can be obtained via the free-surface Green’s function method,are established.Then,the time-dependent elastic deflection of the moored oil storage vessel is expressed by a superposition of modal functions and corresponding modal amplitudes,and a Galerkin scheme is applied to derive the linear system of equations for the modal amplitudes.The second-order linear differential equations for modal amplitudes are solved via the fourth-order Runge−Kutta method.The present model is validated against existing frequency domain results for a truncated cylinder and a VLFS.Numerical calculations for the moored oil storage vessel are then conducted to obtain the time series of various modal amplitudes and elastic displacements of the measurement points and the corresponding spectra with different incident directions.展开更多

The present work determined the possibility of using aluminium alloy 7075 material to design and manufacture a connecting rod for weight optimisation without losing the strength of the connecting rod. It considered modal and thermal analyses to investigate the suitability of the material for connecting rod design. The parameters that were considered under the modal analysis were: total deformation, and natural frequency, while the thermal analysis looked at the temperature distribution, total heat flux and directional heat flux of the four connecting rods made with titanium alloy, grey cast iron, structural steel and aluminium 7075 alloy respectively. The connecting rod was modelled using Autodesk inventor2017 software using the calculated parameters. The steady-state thermal analysis was used to determine the induced heat flux and directional heat flux. The study found that Aluminium 7075 alloy deformed more than the remaining three other materials but has superior qualities in terms of vibrational natural frequency, total heat flux and lightweight compared to structural steel, grey cast iron and titanium alloy.展开更多

Among t...A contact bolt model is proposed as a new modeling technique to investigate the complex structure with bolted joints for modal analysis and compared with the coupled bolt model, and the test results are given. Among these models, the coupled bolt model provides the best accurate responses compared with the experimental results. The contact bolt model shows the best effectiveness and usefulness in view of operational time. The bolt models proposed in this study are adopted for a dynamic characteristic analysis of a large diesel engine consisting of several parts which are connected by many bolts. The dynamic behavior of the entire engine structure was investigated by experiment. The coupled bolt model and the contact bolt model were applied to model the assembly of engine with high preload. The experimental results are in good agreement with the finite element method (FEM) results. Compared with the other models, the contact bolt model presented in this paper is more effective and useful in view of operational time and experience of analysts.展开更多

It is generally realized by adjusting spring sti nes...The current investigations primarily focus on using advanced suspensions to overcome the tradeo design of ride comfort and handling performance for mining vehicles. It is generally realized by adjusting spring sti ness or damping parameters through active control methods. However, some drawbacks regarding control complexity and uncertain reliability are inevitable for these advanced suspensions. Herein, a novel passive hydraulically interconnected suspension(HIS) system is proposed to achieve an improved ride-handling compromise of mining vehicles. A lumped-mass vehicle model involved with a mechanical–hydraulic coupled system is developed by applying the free-body diagram method. The transfer matrix method is used to derive the impedance of the hydraulic system, and the impedance is integrated to form the equation of motions for a mechanical–hydraulic coupled system. The modal analysis method is employed to obtain the free vibration transmissibilities and force vibration responses under di erent road excitations. A series of frequency characteristic analyses are presented to evaluate the isolation vibration performance between the mining vehicles with the proposed HIS and the conventional suspension. The analysis results prove that the proposed HIS system can e ectively suppress the pitch motion of sprung mass to guarantee the handling performance, and favorably provide soft bounce sti ness to improve the ride comfort. The distribution of dynamic forces between the front and rear wheels is more reasonable, and the vibration decay rate of sprung mass is increased e ectively. This research proposes a new suspension design method that can achieve the enhanced cooperative control of bounce and pitch motion modes to improve the ride comfort and handling performance of mining vehicles as an e ective passive suspension system.展开更多

An analytical model based on Wagner theory is used for calculations of transient slamming load on the ship plate. A thin isotropic plate theory is considered for determining the vibration of a rectangular plate excited by an external slamming force. The forced vibration of the plate is calculated by the modal expansion method. Analytical results of the transient response of a rectangular plate induced by slamming loads are compared with numerical calculations from finite element method. The theoretical slamming pressure based on Wagner model is applied on the finite element model of a plate. Good agreement is obtained between the analytical and numerical results for the structural deflection of a rectangular plate due to slamming pressure. The effects of plate dimension and wave profile on the structural vibration are discussed as well. The results show that a low impact velocity and a small wetted radial length of wave yield negligible effects of hydroelasticity.展开更多

The modal frequencies and frequencies of the first and second longitudinal vibration of the horn are obtained by the finite element analysis. The horn is made and modal testing is carried out. The modal frequencies of the first and second longitudinal vibration are obtained respectively. The test results are in good agreement with the theoretical calculation. Experimental results show the maximum amplitude of the horn can reach 9?nm with applied excitation voltage of amplitude 7?V and frequency 21,450?Hz, when the amplitude of voltage increases?to 80?V, the horn of maximum amplitude reaches?23 μm. The maximum amplitude of the horn is approximately proportional to the amplitude of excitation voltage. The horn has the characteristics of high sensitivity and large amplitude, and can be used in ultrasonic machining and other fields.展开更多

By the software of I-DEAS, the natural frequency, normal mode, dynamic time-domain response, frequency-domain response and one-third octave velocity grade structure borne noise of gear system are studied by the method of theoretical modal analysis and dynamic response analysis. The basic...Free-interface dual-compatibility modal synthesis method(compatibility of both force and displacement on interfaces)is introduced to large-scale civil engineering structure to enhance computation efficiency. The basic equations of the method are first set up, and then the mode cut-off principle and the dividing principle are proposed. MATLAB is used for simulation in different frame structures. The simulation results demonstrate the applicability of this substructure method to civil engineering structures and the correctness of the proposed mode cut-off principle. Studies are also conducted on how to divide the whole structure for better computation efficiency while maintaining better precision. It is observed that the geometry and material properties should be considered, and the synthesis results would be more precise when the inflection points of the mode shapes are taken into consideration. Furthermore, the simulation performed on a large-scale high-rise connected structure further proves the feasibility and efficiency of this modal synthesis method compared with the traditional global method. It is also concluded from the simulation results that the fewer number of DOFs in each substructure will result in better computation efficiency, but too many substructures will be time-consuming due to the tedious synthesis procedures. Moreover, the substructures with free interface will introduce errors and reduce the precision dramatically, which should be avoided.展开更多

The ...In the realization of mechanical structures, achieving stability and balance is a problem commonly encountered by engineers in the field of civil engineering, mechanics, aeronautics, biomechanics and many others. The study of plate behavior is a very sensitive subject because it is part of the structural elements. The study of the dynamic behavior of free vibration structures is done by modal analysis in order to calculate natural frequencies and modal deformations. In this paper, we present the modal analysis of a thin rectangular plate simply supported. The analytical solution of the differential equation is obtained by applying the method of separating the variables. We are talking about the exact solution of the problem to the limit values. However, numerical methods such as the finite element method allow us to approximate these functions with greater accuracy. It is one of the most powerful computational methods for predicting dynamic response in a complex structure subject to arbitrary boundary conditions. The results obtained by MEF through Ansys 15.0 are then compared with those obtained by the analytical method.展开更多

However, the harmonic pollution of shale gas grid becomes more serious due to the converter and frequency conversion device in the system, which easily causes harmonic resonance problem. Therefore, the harmonic resonance of shale gas grid is comprehensively analyzed and treated. Firstly, the working mechanism of compressor, electric drilling RIGS of the harmonic impedance model of electric fracturing pump system is established. Secondly, the main research methods of harmonic resonance analysis are introduced, and the basic principle of modal analysis is explained. Modal analysis method was used to analyze. Finally, harmonic resonance is suppressed. The results show that there may be multiple resonant frequency points in the distribution network changes, but these changes are relatively clear;if the original resonant frequency point of the resonant loop does not exist, the resonant frequency point disappears. The optimal configuration strategy of passive filter can effectively suppress harmonic resonance of distribution network in shale gas field.展开更多
