线上线下混合教学模式下大学生英语学习投入研究

学习投入是考察学习成效和评价教学效果的关键指标,但鲜有研究涉及线上线下混合教学模式下的非英语专业学生的英语学习投入。本研究以“学术英语”课程为例,采用问卷和半结构化访谈探索该模式下学生学习投入各维度特征。研究发现混合教... 学习投入是考察学习成效和评价教学效果的关键指标,但鲜有研究涉及线上线下混合教学模式下的非英语专业学生的英语学习投入。本研究以“学术英语”课程为例,采用问卷和半结构化访谈探索该模式下学生学习投入各维度特征。研究发现混合教学模式下英语学习投入构念包括认知、情感和行为三个维度,学生在认知维度的投入最高,其次为情感投入,在行为维度的投入最低。此外,学生个体因素、学习资源与环境因素和课堂人际关系因素是影响英语学习投入的主要来源。研究结果揭示了混合教学环境各个因素的多维互动生态关系,能促进混合教学在我国外语教育中的有效应用。 展开更多

Applying MUSIC Model to Explore Students' Academic Motivation in an ESP Course

Students' academic motivation in a course is one of the most important factors to evaluate the success of the course. Measuring such a type of motivation has been proven to be complicated and open for debate. In this study, MUSIC Model of academic motivation developed by Jones (2009) was employed to conduct a survey on 214 third-year students of a police university after their Medical English course. Given five major components in the MUSIC Model derived from research and theory that are critical to student engagement in academic settings, including empowerment, usefulness, success, interest, and caring, the study reveals interesting results for considering the effectiveness of an ESP course. Some implications for instructors about how to engage students in a course have been also drawn out. It is believed to be practically helpful for those delivering ESP courses in non-English major universities in Vietnam. 展开更多

Taking Needs into Deeds: Application of Needs Analysis in Undergraduate EAP Course Design

Needs analysis as the central force of EAP has received insufficient practice, resulting in dissatisfactory pedagogy. This study proposes a framework of CEAPNA (comprehensive EAP needs analysis), and illustrates how the framework helps to shape learning-centered EAP pedagogy. The CEAPNA survey covered 452 undergraduates and 83 faculty members from science and engineering departments, and was triangulated with the researchers' retrospection of seven years of pedagogical practice. Major findings in the study suggest multiple sources as a must in a comprehensive and accurate analysis of EAP learner needs. In the meantime, the specificity of learner needs addresses EAP practitioners' endeavors to specify these needs in various dimensions, so as to negotiate a satisfactory balance between language, cognition and affect in EAP pedagogy. Due to realistic constraints in specifying and balancing the needs, this paper wishes to oblige with a conceptual interpretation as well as a pedagogical retrospection. 展开更多
