Vortex induced vibration(VIV) is the key problem encountered i...With the development of deepwater oil and gas exploration, Steel Catenary Risers(SCRs) become preferred risers for resource production, import and export. Vortex induced vibration(VIV) is the key problem encountered in the design of SCRs. In this study, a new model, the rigid swing model, is proposed based on the consideration of large curvature of SCRs. The sag bend of SCRs is assumed as a rigid swing system around the axis from the hanging point to the touch down point(TDP) in the model. The torque, produced by the lift force and the swing vector, provides the driving torque for the swing system, and the weight of SCRs provides the restoring torque. The simulated response of rigid swing is coupled with bending vibration, and then the coupling VIV model of SCRs is studied in consideration of bending vibration and rigid motion. The calculated results indicate that the rigid swing has a magnitude equal to that of bending vibration, and the rigid motion affects the dynamic response of SCRs and can not be neglected in the VIV analysis.展开更多

The partial differential equationmodel, including equilibrium and kinetic models, has provided an elementary viewpoint for PSA processes. Usingthe simplest equilibrium models, some influential factors, such as pressurization with product, incomplete purge,beds with dead volume and heat effects, are discussed respectively. With several approximate assumptions i.e.,concentration profile in adsorbent, 'frozen' column, symmetry and heat effects of bed wall, the more complexkinetic models can be simplified to a certain degree at the expense of a limited application. It has also been foundthat the electrical analogue model has great flexibility to handle more realistic PSA processes without any additionalhypothesis.展开更多

The difference between force-velocity curves given by force clamp and fixed trap respectively has been satisfactorily interpreted by this model. The study implies that ADP releasing and ATP hydrolysis are much less forcedependent in force clamp experiments than that in fixed trap experiments in the regime of moderate loading force, which might be a consequence of the delayed response of servo system in force clamp experiments.展开更多

To solve this problem, this paper presents a mathematical model for arm driven inverted pendulum in mid-position configuration and an adaptive gain scheduling linear quadratic regulator control method for the stabilizing the inverted pendulum. The proposed controllers for arm driven inverted pendulum are simulated using MATLAB-SIMULINK and implemented on an experiment system using PIC 18F4431 mieroeontroller. The result of experiment system shows the control performance to be very good in a wide range stabilization of the arm position.展开更多
Experiments of forecasting daily bi-variate index of the tropical atmospheric Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) are performed in the context of adaptive filtering prediction models by combining the singular spectrum ana...Experiments of forecasting daily bi-variate index of the tropical atmospheric Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) are performed in the context of adaptive filtering prediction models by combining the singular spectrum analysis (SSA) with the autoregressive (AR) methods.the MJO index,a pair of empirical orthogonal function (EOF) time series,called RMM1 and RMM2,predicts by the combined statistical SSA and AR models:firstly,according to the index of historic observation decomposed by SSA and then reconstructed by selecting the first several components based on prominent variance contributions;after that,established an AR prediction model from the composite (scheme A) or built the forecast models for each of these selected reconstructed components,separately (Scheme B).Several experimental MJO index forecasts are performed based on the models.The results show that both models have useful skills of the MJO index forecast beyond two weeks.In some cases,the correlation coefficient between the observed and predicted index series stays above 0.5 in 20 leading days.The SSA-AR model,based on the reconstructed composite series,has better performance on MJO forecast than the AR model,especially for the leading time longer than 5 days.Therefore,if we build a real-time forecast system by the SSA-AR model,it might provide an applicable tool for the operational prediction of the MJO index.展开更多
