Nonstructural protein 2B and 3 of the flaviviruses(NS2BNS3) form an endoplasmic reticulum(ER) membrane-associated hetero-dimeric complex through the NS2B transmembrane region. The NS2BNS3 complex is multifunctional. The N-terminal region of NS3, and its cofactor NS2B fold into a protease that is responsible for viral polyprotein processing, and the C-terminal domain of NS3 possesses NTPase/RNA helicase activities and is involved in viral RNA replication and virus particle formation. In addition, NS2BNS3 complex has also been shown to modulate viral pathogenesis and the host immune response. Because of the essential functions that the NS2BNS3 complex plays in the flavivirus life cycle, it is an attractive target for antiviral development. This review focuses on the recent biochemical and structural advances of NS2BNS3 and provides a brief update on the current status of drug development targeting this viral protein complex.展开更多

Based on the modified prime factorization method and multistage polyphase decomposition, an efficient non-recursive structure for the cascaded integrator-comb (CIC) decimation filter is derived. Utilizing this structure as the core part, the proposed comb decimator can not only loosen the decimation ratio's limitation, but also balance the tradeoff among the overall power consumption, circuit area and maximum speed. Further, to improve the frequency response of the comb decimator, a cos-prefilter is introduced as the preprocessing part for increasing the aliasing rejection, and an optimum sin-based filter is used as the compensation part for decreasing the passband droop.展开更多

The topological expression is used in study of the coherence and the decoherence. We find the expression of vorticity for decoherence has a similar form as that for coherence. A topological reason leading to the decoherence is given and a new parameter is defined to indicate the coherence degree. The parameter is different from the damping factor because it relates to the topological structure of the reduced quantum trajectory.展开更多

The widely used Mualem model is inadequate for deformable soils because of its assumption of a rigid pore structure and the resultant unique dependence of the tortuosity factor on the volumetric water content. In this study, a unified relationship between the relative permeability and the effective degree of saturation was proposed for deformable soils by incorporating our newly developed water retention curve model into the original Mualem model, in which a new tortuosity factor was defined using the fractal dimension of flow paths and the mean radius of water-filled pores for representing the effect of pore structure variation. The modified deformation-dependent relative permeability model was verified using test data on five types of soils; the verification revealed a much better performance of the proposed model than the original model, which commonly overestimates the relative permeability of deformable soils. Finally, the proposed model was implemented in a coupled numerical model for examining the unsaturated flow and elastoplastic deformation processes in a soil slope induced by rain infiltration. The numerical results showed that the deformation-dependent nature of relative permeability has a remarkable effect on the elastoplastic deformation in the slope and that neglect of the deformation-dependent behavior of relative permeability causes overestimation of the depth of failure.展开更多

Our results show that the Bogoliubov bands of the system, particularly the lowest one, can be significantly influenced when one tunes the dipole orientation. Consequently, the calculated static structure factor of an optically trapped dipolar Bose gas shows marked difference from the non-dipolar one. Moreover, we show that the effects of dipole-dipole interaction on the dynamic structure factor is also strongly affected by the strength of the optical confinement.展开更多
