The temporal-spatial variability of SOC stockswas determined in a basin of over 579 km^2...In global change research, changes of soil organic carbon (SOC) reservoirs intropical and subtropical regions are still unknown. The temporal-spatial variability of SOC stockswas determined in a basin of over 579 km^2 in subtropical China from 1981to 2002. ArcGIS8.l softwarewas utilized for spatial analysis of semivariance, ordinary kriging (OK), and probability kriging(PK). Grid and hierarchical approaches were employed for the sampling scenario in 2002 with 106Global Position System (GPS) established spots sampled. Bulk topsoil samples (0—30 cm) werecollected at three random sites on each spot. The SOC content for 1981 came from the SOC map of theSecond National Soil Survey. Geostatistical results of the nugget to sill ratio (0.215-0.640)in therehabilitating ecosystem indicated a moderate spatial dependence for SOC on this large scale. Therange of SOC changed from 2.04 km in 1981 to 7.15 km in 2002. The mean topsoil SOC increased by 4.6%from 10.63 g kg^(-1) (1981) to 11.12 g kg^(-1)(2002). However, during this 21-year period 25.2% ofthe total basin area experienced a decrease in SOC. Also, the probability kriging results showedthat the geometric mean probabilities of SOC <= 6.0 g kg^(-1), <= 11.0 g kg^(-1) and > 15.0 gkg^(-1) were 0.188, 0.534 and 0.378, respectively in 2002, comparing to 0.234, 0.416 and 0.234 inthat order in 1981, respectively. The SOC storage in the topsoil increased by 17.0% during this timewith the main increase occurring in forests and cultivated land,which amounted to 82.5% and 17.0%of the total increase, respectively.展开更多

In its shamanic-religious dimension, the Dorset art (circa 1000 B.C. to circa 1000 A.D.), stemming from a culture moulded by shamanic practices and burial rites, kept memory of the Times of Origins, shaped a very rich symbolic universe, suggested, and outsourced the secret correspondences between the micro and macro cosmos. The present paper investigates the thigh correspondence and relationship between the Inuit-Dorset shamanic view of the world and their miniaturized art.展开更多
Aluminum matrix composites reinforced by in situ Al2O3 and Al3Zr particles are fabricated from A356-Zr(CO3)2 system via magnetochemistry reaction,and the morphologies,sizes and distributions of the in situ particles a...Aluminum matrix composites reinforced by in situ Al2O3 and Al3Zr particles are fabricated from A356-Zr(CO3)2 system via magnetochemistry reaction,and the morphologies,sizes and distributions of the in situ particles as well as the microstructures,mechanical mechanisms of the composites are investigated by XRD,SEM,TEM and in situ tensile tests.The results indicate that with the pulsed magnetic field assistance,the morphologies of the in situ particles are mainly with ball-shape,the sizes are in nanometer scale and the distributions in the matrix are uniform.The interfaces between the in situ particles and the aluminum matrix are net and no interfacial outgrowth is observed.These are due to the strong vibration induced by the applied magnetic field in the aluminum melt,which in turn,accelerates the melt reactions.The effects of the magnetic field on the above contributions are discussed in detail.展开更多
An important area of focus in complex systems development is the capability to adapt to variable runtime environmental resources and to accommodate runtime system failures. The research in this area is broadly termed ...An important area of focus in complex systems development is the capability to adapt to variable runtime environmental resources and to accommodate runtime system failures. The research in this area is broadly termed as “Self Healing” and has recently aroused increasing attention to complex systems. Digital libraries have gained popularity because of the richer features they provide compared to traditional libraries. As more users begin to use digital libraries, addressing downtimes of these valuable resources has become a high priority. Operating and providing access to digital content to anyone, anytime from anywhere in the world, results in a continued rise of administrative overhead for system monitoring and needs continuous human intervention. Given the volume of information and the huge infrastructure of modem libraries, continuous manual system administration is quite costly and not feasible. In this paper we propose a self healing digital library system as the solution to this problem and present the approach of adding self healing capabilities to an existing digital library project, the Digital Library of India (DLI). We also propose a self healing framework that enables successful reuse of our approach to other architecturally similar digital library systems.展开更多

This bath can be artificially realized with coupled reso...In this paper, we study a quantum anti-Zeno effect (QAZE) purely induced by repetitive measurements for an artificial atom interacting with a structured bath. This bath can be artificially realized with coupled resonators in one dimension and possesses photonic band structure like Bloeh electron in a periodic potential. In the presence of repetitive measurements, the pure QAZE is discovered as the observable decay is not negligible even for the atomic energy level spacing outside of the energy band of the artificial bath. If there were no measurements, the decay would not happen outside of the band. In this sense, the enhanced decay is completely induced by measurements through the relaxation channels provided by the bath. Besides, we also discuss the controversial golden rule decay rates originated from the van Hove's singularities and the effects of the counter-rotating terms.展开更多

Objective: The aim of our study was to analyze the long-term results of rituximab combined with temozolomide in treatment of elderly patients (> 60 years) with relapsed primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNS...Objective: The aim of our study was to analyze the long-term results of rituximab combined with temozolomide in treatment of elderly patients (> 60 years) with relapsed primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL). Methods: Twelve postoperative elderly patients (> 60 years) were treated between August 2004 and October 2009. Temozolomide 100 mg/m2 to 200 mg/m2 days 1 to 7 and 15 to 21 and rituximab 375 mg/m2 days 1, 5, 8, 22. The maximum number of rituximab cycles was two. After one or two cycles of this combination, patients with an objective response and an acceptable level of toxicity continued treatment with single agent temozolomide (days 1 to 5, every 28 days). The overall survival was analyzed by using Kaplan-Meier. Results: The overall survival was 9 months. Toxicity was very mild with no grade 3-4 neurotoxicity toxic events. Conclusion: Rituximab combined with temozolomide seems to yields substantial long-term survival with moderate toxicity for the treatment of elderly relapsed PCNSL.展开更多
The kinetics of complex reaction systems were studied on molecular level with the combined method of Monte Carlo simulation and Structural Oriented Lumping by focusing on deep catalytic cracking (DCC) process, the m...The kinetics of complex reaction systems were studied on molecular level with the combined method of Monte Carlo simulation and Structural Oriented Lumping by focusing on deep catalytic cracking (DCC) process, the model parameters were optimized by means of routine analytic data of a DCC unit. A model was established to transform the feedstock of the complex reaction systems such as DCC to 1000-10000 pseudo-molecules with the Monte Carlo simulation and every molecule was expressed by 19 attributes. The results of model simulation showed that these pseudo-molecules reflected the characteristics of feedstock very well and their average properties gave a good agreement with the plant data.展开更多
