Path-Following Based on Nonlinear Model Predictive Control with Adaptive Path Preview

This paper presents a Nonlinear Model Predictive Controller(NMPC)for the path following of autonomous vehicles and an algorithm to adaptively adjust the preview distance.The prediction model includes vehicle dynamics,path following dynamics,and system input dynamics.The single-track vehicle model considers the vehicle’s coupled lateral and longitudinal dynamics,as well as nonlinear tire forces.The tracking error dynamics are derived based on the curvilinear coordinates.The cost function is designed to minimize path tracking errors and control effort while considering constraints such as actuator bounds and tire grip limits.An algorithm that utilizes the optimal preview distance vector to query the corresponding reference curvature and reference speed.The length of the preview path is adaptively adjusted based on the vehicle speed,heading error,and path curvature.We validate the controller performance in a simulation environment with the autonomous racing scenario.The simulation results show that the vehicle accurately follows the highly dynamic path with small tracking errors.The maximum preview distance can be prior estimated and guidance the selection of the prediction horizon for NMPC. 展开更多

Local state-space models are established on the basis of nonlinearity analysis and subspace identification. To eiJiance thedisturbance rejection capability of the controller, a extended state observer is employed to estimate unnown disturbances and model mismatches. The disturbance estimation ennaced local predictive controllers ae subsequently devised based on the local models, the performance of which is further strengthened by incorporating the fuzzy scheduling technique. The simulation results verify the merits of the proposed strategy in achieving satisfactory wide-range load tracking ad disturbance rejection performance. 展开更多

The modified model works in a competitive output manner which results in its local representation property. While studying on line, only a few parameters need to be regulated. So the model has the merits of fast learning and on line self organizing modeling. The control algorithm is simple, adaptive and useful in multivariable and time delay systems. In this article,an approach for economic performance assessment of model predictive control(MPC) system is presented.The method builds on steady-state economic optimization techniques and uses the linear quadratic Gaussian(LQG) benchmark other than conventional minimum variance control(MVC) to estimate the potential of reduction in variance.The LQG control is a more practical performance benchmark compared to MVC for performance assessment since it considers input variance and output variance,and it thus provides a desired basis for determining the theoretical maximum economic benefit potential arising from variability reduction.Combining the LQG benchmark directly with benefit potential of MPC control system,both the economic benefit and the optimal operation condition can be obtained by solving the economic optimization problem.The proposed algorithm is illustrated by simulated example as well as application to economic performance assessment of an industrial model predictive control system. 展开更多

In this approach, the minimization problem of the “worst-case” objective function is converted into the linear objective minimization problem in- volving linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) constraints. The state feedback control law is obtained by solving convex optimization of a set of LMIs. Sufficient condition for stability and a new upper bound on robust performance index are given for these kinds of uncertain fuzzy systems with state time-delay. A hybrid approach using MLD (mixed logical dynamical) framework to handle infeasibility and constraint prioritization issues in MPC (model predictive control) based on input-output model is introduced. By expressing constraint priorities as propositional logics and by transforming the propositional logics into inequalities,the infeasibility and constraint prioritization issues are solved in the MPC. Constraints with higher priorities are met first, and then these with lower priorities are satisfied as much as possible. This new approach is illustrated in the control of a heavy oil fractionator-Shell column. The overall control performance has been significantly improved through the infeasibility and control priorities handling. 展开更多

Multi-kernel-based support vector machine (SVM) model structure of nonlinear systems and its specific identification method is proposed, which is composed of a SVM with linear kernel function followed in series by a SVM with spline kernel function. With the help of this model, nonlinear model predictive control can be transformed to linear model predictive control, and consequently a unified analytical solution of optimal input of multi-step-ahead predictive control is possible to derive. This algorithm does not require online iterative optimization in order to be suitable for real-time control with less calculation. The simulation results of pH neutralization process and CSTR reactor show the effectiveness and advantages of the presented algorithm. 展开更多

In order to obtain accurate prediction model and compensate for the influence of model mismatch on the control performance of the system and avoid solving nonlinear programming problem,an adaptive fuzzy predictive functional control(AFPFC) scheme for multivariable nonlinear systems was proposed.Firstly,multivariable nonlinear systems were described based on Takagi-Sugeno(T-S) fuzzy models;assuming that the antecedent parameters of T-S models were kept,the consequent parameters were identified on-line by using the weighted recursive least square(WRLS) method.Secondly,the identified T-S models were linearized to be time-varying state space model at each sampling instant.Finally,by using linear predictive control technique the analysis solution of the optimal control law of AFPFC was established.The application results for pH neutralization process show that the absolute error between the identified T-S model output and the process output is smaller than 0.015;the tracking ability of the proposed AFPFC is superior to that of non-AFPFC(NAFPFC) for pH process without disturbances,the overshoot of the effluent pH value of AFPFC with disturbances is decreased by 50% compared with that of NAFPFC;when the process parameters of AFPFC vary with time the integrated absolute error(IAE) performance index still retains to be less than 200 compared with that of NAFPFC. 展开更多

Based on the two-dimensional (2D) system theory, an integrated predictive iterative learning control (2D-IPILC) strategy for batch processes is presented. First, the output response and the error transition model predictions along the batch index can be calculated analytically due to the 2D Roesser model of the batch process. Then, an integrated framework of combining iterative learning control (ILC) and model predictive control (MPC) is formed reasonably. The output of feedforward ILC is estimated on the basis of the predefined process 2D model. By min- imizing a quadratic objective function, the feedback MPC is introduced to obtain better control performance for tracking problem of batch processes. Simulations on a typical batch reactor demonstrate that the satisfactory tracking performance as well as faster convergence speed can be achieved than traditional proportion type (P- t-we) ILC despite the model error and disturbances. 展开更多

First, an analytical solution of optimal control laws of parallel SVMs based MPC was derived, and then the necessary and sufficient stability condition for MPC closed loop was given according to SVM model, and finally a method of judging the discrepancy between SVM model and the actual plant was presented, and consequently the constraint sets, which can guarantee that the stability condition is still robust for model/plant mismatch within some given bounds, were obtained by applying small-gain theorem. Simulation experiments show the proposed stability condition and robust constraint sets can provide a convenient way of adjusting controller parameters to ensure a closed-loop with larger stable margin. 展开更多

The aramid fiber-reinforced composites(AFRC)can increase the durability of corresponding applications such as aerospace,automobile and other large structural parts,due to the improvement in hardness,heat build-up,wear properties and green environmental protection.However,because of its complex multiphase structure and unique heterogeneity and anisotropy,the poor compression fatigue resistance and the incident surface fibrillation are inevitable.To improve the assembly precision of AFRC,mechanical processing is necessary to meet the dimensional accuracy.This paper focuses on the influence of contour milling parameters on delamination defects during milling of AFRC laminates.A series of milling experiments are conducted and two different kinds of delamination defects including tearing delamination and uncut-off delamination are investigated.A computing method and model based on brittle fracture for the two different types of delamination are established.The results can be used for explaining the mechanism and regularity of delamination defects.The control strategy of delamination defects and evaluation method of finished surface integrity are further discussed.The results are meaningful to optimize cutting parameters,and provide a clear understanding of surface defects control. 展开更多

The theoretical study of a semi-active predictive control(SAPC) system with magnetorheological(MR) dampers to reduce the responses of seismically excited structures was presented.The SAPC scheme is based on a prediction model of the system response to obtain the control actions by minimizing an object function,which has a function of self-compensation for time delay occurring in real application.A double-ended shear mode combined with a valve mode MR damper,named MRF-04K damper,with the maximum force of 20 kN was designed and manufactured,and parameters of the Bouc-Wen hysteresis model were determined to portray the behavior of this damper.As an example,a 5-story building frame equipped with 2 MRF-04K dampers was presented to demonstrate the performance of the proposed SAPC scheme for addressing time delay and reducing the structural responses under different earthquakes.Comparison with the uncontrolled structure,the passive-off and passive-on cases indicates that both the peak and the norm values of structural responses are all clearly reduced,and the SAPC scheme has a better performance than the two passive cases. 展开更多

In order to track the desired path as fast as possible,a novel autonomous vehicle path tracking based on model predictive control(MPC)and PID speed control was proposed for high-speed automated vehicles considering the constraints of vehicle physical limits,in which a forward-backward integration scheme was introduced to generate a time-optimal speed profile subject to the tire-road friction limit.Moreover,this scheme was further extended along one moving prediction window.In the MPC controller,the prediction model was an 8-degree-of-freedom(DOF)vehicle model,while the plant was a 14-DOF vehicle model.For lateral control,a sequence of optimal wheel steering angles was generated from the MPC controller;for longitudinal control,the total wheel torque was generated from the PID speed controller embedded in the MPC framework.The proposed controller was implemented in MATLAB considering arbitrary curves of continuously varying curvature as the reference trajectory.The simulation test results show that the tracking errors are small for vehicle lateral and longitudinal positions and the tracking performances for trajectory and speed are good using the proposed controller.Additionally,the case of extended implementation in one moving prediction window requires shorter travel time than the case implemented along the entire path. 展开更多

For a class of linear discrete-time systems that is subject to randomly occurred networked packet loss in industrial cyber physical systems, a novel robust model predictive control method with active compensation mechanism was proposed. The probability distribution of packet loss is described as the Bernoulli distributed white sequences. By using the Lyapunov stability theory, the existing sufficient conditions of the controller are derived from solving a group of linear matrix inequalities. Moreover, dropout-rate with uncertainty and unknown dropout-rate are also considered, which can greatly reduce the conservativeness of the controller. The designed robust model predictive control method not only efficiently eliminates the negative effects of the networked data loss in industrial cyber physical systems but also ensures the stability of closed-loop system. Two examples were provided to illustrate the superiority and effectiveness of the proposed method. 展开更多

In this article, a novel neural network nonlinear predic-tive control (NNPC) strategy baseed on the new Tent-map chaos optimization algorithm (TCOA) is presented. Thefeedforward neural network'is used as the multi-step predictive model. In addition, the TCOA is applied to perform the nonlinear rolling optimization to enhance the convergence and accuracy in the NNPC. An expansion procedure to design partially decentralized controllers via model predictive control is proposed in this paper. Partially decentralized control is a control structure that lies between a fully decentralized structure and a fully centralized one, and has the advantage of achieving comparable performance as a fully centralized controller but with simpler structure. The proposed method follows the expansion method proposed in a previous paper where internal model control (IMC) was used to design controllers for non-square subsystems. The method requires computing the pseudo-inverse of a non-square matrix via pseudo-inverse factors. Instead, the proposed method uses dynamic matrix control (DMC) to design PID controllers for non-square subsystems without using additional factors. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated on several chemical examples. Simulation results show that the proposed method is simple and can achieve better performance. 展开更多

To improve the control performance of nonlinear ultra-supercritical(USC)thermal power units,an improved min-max fuzzy model predictive tracking control(FMPTC)strategy is proposed.First,a T-S fuzzy model is established to approximate the dynamics of the nonlinear boiler-turbine system.Then,based on an extended fuzzy model containing state variables and output variables,a min-max FMPTC is derived for output regulation while ensuring the closed-loop system stability and the inputs in their given constraints.For greater controller design freedom,the developed controller adopts a new state-and output-based objective function.In addition,the observer estimation error is regarded as a bounded disturbance,ensuring the stability of the entire closed-loop control system.Simulation results on a 1000 MW USC boiler-turbine model illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. 展开更多
