Wind energy is one of the most promising electricity generating sources as a clean and free alternate compared with the conventional power plants and due to the volatility feature in the wind speeds it will reflect some problems in power systems reliability particularly if the system is deeply penetrated by wind farms. Therefore, wind power forecasting issue become and is still an important scope that will help in ED (economic dispatch), UC (unit commitment) purposes to get more reliable and economic systems. This paper introduces short term wind power forecasting model, based on ARIMA (autoregressive integrated moving average) which will be applied to hourly wind data from Zaafarana 5 project in Egypt. The proposed model successfully outperforms the persistence model with significant improvement up to 6 h ahead. 展开更多

To deal with the diff iculties of large scale wind power dispatch, this paper presents a new automatic generation control (AGC) scheme that involves the participation of wind farms. The scheme is based on ultra-short-term wind power forecast. With the increasing number of wind farms in power systems, the scheduling of a single wind farm needs to be improved. For this end, this paper proposes an optimal short-term load dispatch strategy for a single wind farm. Firstly, considering the large number of wind units and the high dimensionality of the scheduling solutions, we analyze the unit load characteristics, from which we extract the unit load characteristic matrix, and then classify the wind power units with the FCM fuzzy clustering algorithm. Secondly, we define the running loss indicator and action loss indicator. Based on the prediction of wind power and the load instructions, we establish a unit commitment model in wind farm, and solve the model using a combination of the fuzzy clustering algorithm and genetic algorithm, which overcomes the difficulty of the high dimensionality of the solution in the wind farm scheduling problem, to obtain the optimal scheduling strategy. Finally, through the simulation of the scheduling strategy for a 45 MW wind farm, we demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed strategy. 展开更多

With the increasing capacity of wind farm, HVDC technology has become a promising transmission scheme for long distance transportation of large-scale wind power. However oscillation caused by this system will have a great influence on the security and stability of power system operation. In this paper, the oscillation of a doubly-fed induction generator(DFIG)-based wind farm interfaced with line commutated converter(LCC) based HVDC is discussed. Low-frequency oscillation and subsynchronous oscillation(SSO) are studied since these two oscillations are the particularly concerned oscillations in the stability study of power system in recent years. The model of a DFIG-based wind farm interconnected with LCC-HVDC is developed. The impact of drive train model's structure and parameters on the oscillation characteristics is analyzed. Eigenvalue and participation factor analysis are used to identify the three main modes, which include controller mode, electromechanical mode, and shaft mode. The effects of DFIG controller's parameters, wind speed and operating conditions of HVDC on those modes are studied. Electromagnetic transient simulations are performed to verify the results of the eigenvalue analysis. 展开更多
