Lattice constants, total energies, and densities of states of these metals were calculated using the plane-wave pseudopotential method in DFT. Results were compared with those of projector augmented wave method, CALPHAD method, and experiments. Total energy and electronic structure analyses showed that valence electrons mostly transferred from s to p or d state, changing obviously with both the crystal structure and the elemental period number from V to Ta and leading to stronger cohesion, higher cohesive energy and more stable lattice of heavier metals.展开更多

The polarizable continuum model with various radii for the solute cavity was used to study the relative stability in aqueous solution. The calculated molecular geometries for n=8 and 9 obtained in vacuo are consistent with those observed in experiments. It was found that while the nona-aqua complex is favored in the gas phase, in aqueous solution the octa-aqua conformation is preferred. This result, independent of the types of cavities employed, is in agreement with the experimental observation. The reliability of the present calculation was also addressed by comparing the calculated and experimental free energy of hydration, which revealed that the UA0, UAHF, and UAKS cavities are most appropriate when only the first solvation shell is treated explicitly.展开更多

Some new sufficient conditions were analytically established to ensure that this system has globally asymptotically stable equilibria and Hopf bifurcation surrounding interior equilibrium. In the analysis of Hopf bifurcation, based on the phenomenon of Turing instability and well-done conditions, the system undergoes a Hopf bifurcation and an example incorporating with numerical simulations to support the existence of Hopf bifurcation is presented. We also derived a useful algorithm for determining direction of Hopf bifurcation and stability of bifurcating periodic solutions correspond to j ≠0 and j = 0, respectively. Based on the specific morphological characteristics of a highway landslide, the piecewise function is used to calculate the irregular driving force by dividing the landslide into several sub-areas.Furthermore, the reasonable layout range and pile spacing can be obtained based on the piecewise function expression of the irregular driving force and on relevant research results of the plane layout for stabilizing piles. Therefore, an improved plane layout of stabilizing piles is presented in consideration of a piecewise function expression of the irregular driving force. A highway landslide located in eastern Guizhou Province, China, is analyzed as a case study using the proposed method. The results showed that the oases area was 193,734 km^2, accounting for 8.17% of the arid region of China. The spatial difference in the functional stability of oases was obvious. The Beijiang zone had the highest functional stability and was relatively stable state, and the Hexi Corridor-Alashan Plateau zone had the lowest functional stability and was relatively unstable. The functional stability is dominated by production and ecological functions, which have regional differences. Increasing oasis agricultural output, strengthening highway infrastructure construction and paying attention to education will become important ways to improve oasis functional stability. Water resources determine the ecological function, thus affecting the oasis functional stability. The results provide references for the formulation of related policies according to local conditions.展开更多

This technique is utilized to relax the monotonic requirement of the Lyapunov-Krasovskii theorem. In this regard, the Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional is allowed to increase in a few steps, while being forced to be overall decreasing. As a result, it relays on a larger class of Lyapunov-Krasovskii functionals to provide stability of a state-delay system. To this end, using the non-monotonic Lyapunov-Krasovskii theorem, new sufficient conditions are derived regarding linear matrix inequalities(LMIs)to study the global asymptotic stability of state-delay systems. Moreover, new stabilization conditions are also proposed for time-delay systems in this article. Both simulation and experimental results on a p H neutralizing process are provided to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed method.展开更多

Although many hypotheses have been developed to interpret global gradients of biodiversity, there has not been complete agreement on mechanisms controlling biodiversity patterns and distributions. Differences may be due to limited observation data and inconsistencies of spatial scales in analysis. Methods: In this study, we take advantage of USDA Forest Service forest inventory and analysis (FIA) data for exploring regional forest biodiversity and BEF in New England forests. The FIA data provide detailed information of sampled plots and trees for the region, including 6000 FIA plots and more than 33,000 individual trees. Biodiversity models were used to analyze the data. Results: Tree species diversity increases from the north to the south at a rate about 2-3 species per latitudinal degree. Tree species diversity is better predicted by tree height than forest age or biomass. Very different distribution patterns of two common maple species, sugar maple (Acer sdcchorum) and red maple (Acer rubrum), highlight the vulnerability of sugar maple and its potential replacement by red maple on New England landscapes. Red maple generally already outperforms sugar maple, and will likely and continuously benefit from a changing climate in New England. Conclusions: We conclude that forest structure (height) and resources (biomass) are more likely foundational characteristics supporting biodiversity rather than biodiversity determining forest productivity and/or biomass. The potential replacement of red maple for sugar maple in the New England areas could affect biodiversity and stability of forest ecosystem functioning because sugar maple plays important ecological roles distinct from red maple that are beneficial to other tree species in northern hardwood forests. Such a change may not affect forest resilience in terms of forest productivity and biomass as these are similar in red maple and sugar maple, however, it would almost certainly alter forest structure across the landscape.展开更多
