Pagoda as Grottos: Rethinking the Architectural Form of Cave 4 of Maijishan Grottoes

This paper mainly explores the architectural form of the interior of Maiji Mountain’s Cave 4 and the spiritual realm it establishes.Previous research holds the view that the niche within Cave 4 is architecturally modeled after a tent-like structure.However,after in-depth research,this paper suggests that the niche in Cave 4 is more of an imitation of an embedded stupa,or rather,it reconstructs the stupa in an embedded form within the cave.In prior studies,analysis historical background and architectural details of Cave 4 remains inadequate,thus,this paper aims to take a thorough investigation on this point,and further clarify the significance of the form of the Buddha niche in Cave 4,as well as its construction design origins.Specifically,the octagonal wooden-imitating column,lotus-shaped clamp,inverted lotus pedestal,five lotus petals,and shadow sculptures within the niche,the shallow-relief ceiling and small platform outside the niche,as well as the banana leaf decorations,all suggest that the architectural form Cave 4 imitates is likely a single-story wooden stupa.In this way,the connection that this embedded stupa creates between the Budda and the faithful,is more direct and intimate,especially compared to the one built in traditional Buddhist activities.Moreover,by coordinating with various visual materials inside the cave,such as the layout of the Dharma assembly and the exquisite details of the Buddha images,it reconstructs the“realm of the mind”in Buddhism,reinforcing the faithful’s dual experience both in physical and spiritual fields.The Master Teacher Studio of basic education came into being with the new curriculum reform,which has become a new mechanism for the construction of teaching staff in social situations in China.As a brand-new way in the construction of teaching staff in the new era,through reviewing the relevant research,it is found that the focus of academic circles on Master Teacher Studio is mainly in four aspects:clarifying the conceptual boundary,seeking theoretical support,defining the functional orientation,and exploring status quo of development.The exploration of the research process is not only a process of summary but also a process of reflection.By reviewing relevant research,reflecting on the problems that have appeared in the process of building the Master Teacher Studio in basic education,clarify the development path of the Master Teacher Studio and further affirm its advantages to the construction of teaching staff in the Chinese context. 展开更多

To improve the damage efficiency of compact terminal sensitive projectile with EFP warhead,it is vital to understand how the embedded structure(ES)affects the EFP forming performance.In this paper,the corresponding numerical investigation is focused on,in which the fluid-structure interaction(FSI)method and the experimental verification are used.Based on the obtained quantitative relations between the forming performance and a(the ratio of height to maximum radius of ES),an optimal design is further provided.The results indicate that:when the embedded structural length and width range 0.1e0.3D and 0.1e0.2D(D:diameter of EFP warhead)at a fixed volume,respectively,EFP forming velocity nearly keeps as a constant,1760 m/s;the height of ES has a dramatical effect on the propagating range of detonation wave,resulting in significant influence on the aerodynamic shape and length-to-diameter ratio of EFP;under the given constraints,the EFP length-diameter ratio can reach the optimal value2.76,when the height of ES is 0.22D. 展开更多

In this paper, the reliability of welded structure with an embedded elliptical crack was calculated by using three dimensional stochastic finite element method. This method has overcome the shortcomings of conservative results in safety assessment with deterministic fracture mechanics method. The calculation of reliability was based on three dimensional perturbation stochastic finite element program which was developed by ourselves. The effects of variables (such as fracture toughness K IC , load P, the ratio of minor axis to major axis a/c) on the structure reliability were also discussed. The calculation results indicate that among the three variables (K IC ,P, a/c) , the fracture toughness K IC has the greatest effect on the structure reliability. The next is external load P. The ratio of the a/c has lower effect on structure reliability than both K IC and P . The method has put forward a new way for safety assessment of welded structure with embedded elliptical cracks. 展开更多

The influence of mechanical characteristics of surrounding soil on structure seismic response is investigated. For this purpose the soil bulk modulus was successively considered 40,000 kPa and 80,000 kPa. The study points out the kinematic interaction soil-buried structure is usually more important than inertial interaction. Over wastewater collector is placed a river channel with 2.30 m deep water. The analysis shown the water from river channel led to significant increase in structure sectional stresses during seismic action. 展开更多

Coordination tuning electronic structure of host materials is a quite effective strategy for activating and improving the intrinsic properties.Herein,halogen anion(X-)-incorporated β-FeOOH(β-FeOOH(X),X=F-,Cl-,and Br-) was investigated with a spontaneous adsorption process,which realized a great improvement of supercapacitor performances by adjusting the coordination geometry.Experiments coupled with theoretical calculations demonstrated that the change of Fe-O bond length and structural distortion of β-FeOOH,which is rooted in halogen ions embedment,led to the relatively narrow band gap.Because of the strong electronegativity of X-,the Fe element in β-FeOOH(X)s presented the unexpected high valence state(3+δ),which is facilitating to adsorb S032-species.Consequently,the designed β-FeOOH(X)s exhibited the good electric conductivity and enhanced the contact between electrode and electrolyte.When used as a negative electrode,the β-FeOOH(F) showed the excellent specific capacity of 391.9 F g-1 at 1 A g-1 current density,almost tenfold improvement compared with initial β-FeOOH,with the superior rate capacity and cyclic stability.This combinational design principle of electronic structure and electrochemical performances provides a promising way to develop advanced electrode materials for supercapacitor. 展开更多

First-principles, all-electron, ab initio calculations have been performed to construct an equivalent water potential for the electronic structure of serine (Ser) in solution. The calculation is composed of three steps. The first step is to search for the configuration of the Ser _ nH2O system with a minimum energy. The second step is to calculate the electronic structure of Ser with the water molecule potential via the self-consistent cluster-embedding method (SCCE), based on the result obtained in the first step. The last step is to calculate the electronic structure of Set with the dipole potential after replacing the water molecules with dipoles. The results show that the occupied states of Ser are raised by about 0.017 Ry on average due to the effect of water. The water effect can be successfully simulated by using the dipole potential. The obtained equivalent potential can be applied directly to the electronic structure calculation of protein in solution by using the SCCE method. 展开更多

Cost and safety are important considerations when designing the thickness of a protective reinforced concrete shelter.The blast perforation limit(BPL)is the minimum concrete shelter thickness that resists perforation under blast loading.To investigate the influence of the depth of embedment(DOE)and length-to-diameter ratio(L/D)of an explosive charge on the BPL,the results of an explosion test using a slender explosive partially embedded in a reinforced concrete slab were used to validate a refined finite element model.This model was then applied to conduct more than 300 simulations with strictly controlled variables,obtaining the BPLs for various concrete slabs subjected to charge DOEs ranging from0 to∞and L/D values ranging from 0.89 to 6.87.The numerical results were compared with the experimental results from published literature,further verifying the reliability of the simulation.The findings indicate that for the same explosive charge mass and L/D,the greater the DOE,the larger the critical residual thickness(Rc,defined as the difference between the BPL and DOE)up to a certain constant value;for the same explosive charge mass and DOE,the greater the L/D,the smaller the Rc.Thus,corresponding DOE and shape coefficients were introduced to derive a new equation for the BPL,providing a theoretical approach to the design and safety assessment of protective structures. 展开更多

We detail some of what the quantum HUP is, in terms of deterministic 5-dimensional geometry and show that the projection of 5 dimensions into four is when the octonionic structure kicks in as an emergent gravity phenomenon. The example of such is to consider what would happen if there was an aftermath to a presumed initial causal discontinuous structure, after math being the generation of millions of Planck mass black holes, which would in themselves generate emergent gravity. 展开更多

In order to mimic the natural heterogeneity of native tissue and provide a better microenvironment for cell culturing,multi-material bioprinting has become a common solution to construct tissue models in vitro.With the embedded printing method,complex 3D structure can be printed using soft biomaterials with reasonable shape fidelity.However,the current sequential multi-material embedded printing method faces a major challenge,which is the inevitable trade-off between the printed structural integrity and printing precision.Here,we propose a simultaneous multi-material embedded printing method.With this method,we can easily print firmly attached and high-precision multilayer structures.With multiple individually controlled nozzles,different biomaterials can be precisely deposited into a single crevasse,minimizing uncontrolled squeezing and guarantees no contamination of embedding medium within the structure.We analyse the dynamics of the extruded bioink in the embedding medium both analytically and experimentally,and quantitatively evaluate the effects of printing parameters including printing speed and rheology of embedding medium,on the 3D morphology of the printed filament.We demonstrate the printing of double-layer thin-walled structures,each layer less than 200μm,as well as intestine and liver models with 5%gelatin methacryloyl that are crosslinked and extracted from the embedding medium without significant impairment or delamination.The peeling test further proves that the proposed method offers better structural integrity than conventional sequential printing methods.The proposed simultaneous multi-material embedded printing method can serve as a powerful tool to support the complex heterogeneous structure fabrication and open unique prospects for personalized medicine. 展开更多

This study aimed to modify isolated and extracted peanut protein with hot alkali to study the impact of pH,heating temperature,processing time and other alkali liquor conditions on the molecular structure of the peanut.Curcumin was loaded in modified peanut protein.The results of the study are as follows:Within the alkaline range of 8<pH<12,the percentage of amino acid residue(AAR)and-turns first increased and then decreased with the increasing pH,and the percentage of AAR reached a maximum 5.21±0.33%when the pH was 11(p<0.01).The percentage of˛-helices andβ-sheets gradually decreased with increasing pH,while that of random coils gradually increased with increasing pH,reaching a maximum 11.24±0.87%when the pH was 11(p<0.05).Within the range of the heating temperature 75℃<T<95℃,the percentage of random coils andβ-sheets gradually increased with increasing heating temperature,while that of-helices and AAR gradually decreased with increasing heating temperature;they remained unchanged when the heating temperature was 90℃,and then decreased to(10.41±1.18%;p<0.01)and(4.02±2.12%;p<0.01),respectively.Within the range of 5 min<t<20 min,the percentage of random coils and AAR gradually increased with increasing heating time,while the percentage ofα-helices decreased from 11.83±1.04%to 10.75±2.34%with increased heating time(p<0.01).The optimum conditions for hot alkali modification of peanut protein as followed:heating temperature of 90℃,heating time of 20 min and a pH of alkali liquor of 11.Under these optimum conditions,the embedding rate of curcumin by the modified protein can reach 88.32±1.29%. 展开更多

The response of dynamic wave pressures on structures would be more complicated and bring about new phenomena under the dynamic interaction between soil and structure. In order to better understand the response characteristics on deeply embedded large cylindrical structures under random waves, and accordingly to offer valuable findings for engineering, the authors designed wave flume experiments to investigate comparatively dynamic wave pressures on a single and on continuous cylinders with two different embedment depths in response to two wave spectra.The time histories of the water surface elevation and the corresponding dynamic wave pressures exerted on the cylinder were analyzed in the frequency domain. By calculating the transfer function and spectral density for dynamic wave pressures along the height and around the circumference of the cylinder, experimental results of the single cylinder were compared with the theoretical results based on the linear diffraction theory, and detailed comparisons were also carried out between the single and continuous cylinders. Some new findings and the corresponding analysis are reported in present paper. The investigation on continuous cylinders will be used in particular for reference in engineering applications because information is scarce on studying such kind of problem both analytically and experimentally. 展开更多

Based on NCEP 1°×1° reanalysis data, ground encryption houdy precipitation, FY-2E stationary satellite and Doppler radar data, the structural characteristics of precipitation clouds in Hunan Province and the effects of airplane precipitation operation were analyzed. The results show that under the effects of low-pressure system and southwest monsoon, Hunan was rich in water vapor, which was beneficial to the maintaining of precipitation clouds. During the process of the artificial precipitation operation over Hunan Province, convection developed vigorously, and precipita- tion was strong in the south of the province; embedded convective clouds were dominant and precipitation was weak in the east of the province. Cloud optical thickness correlated with ground precipitation positively. After catalyzing, echo at high altitudes responded firstly, and the echo intensi- ty increased gradually; the response of low-altitude echo lagged behind that of high-altitude echo. It shows that catalysis could lead to increase of upper precipitation particles in size and quantity. As time goes on, upper precipitation particles descended to low altitudes, so that echo intensity in- creased at low altitudes. It is clearly seen that catalysis could lead to increase of echo intensity and prolong the lifetime of target clouds to improve the area of strong echo zone, showing obvious positive catalytic effect. At the same time, houdy average precipitation in the affected region tended to increase stably and was obviously more than that of the contrast region where hourly average precipitation reduced gradually with time. The changing trend of hourly average precipitation in the affected region correlated positively with the response of radar echo. 展开更多

In this paper, a recently proposed dimensional-ity reduction method called Twin Kernel Em-bedding (TKE) [10] is applied in 2-dimensional visualization of protein structure relationships. By matching the similarity measures of the input and the embedding spaces expressed by their respective kernels, TKE ensures that both local and global proximity information are preserved simultaneously. Experiments conducted on a subset of the Structural Classification Of Pro-tein (SCOP) database confirmed the effective-ness of TKE in preserving the original relation-ships among protein structures in the lower di-mensional embedding according to their simi-larities. This result is expected to benefit sub-sequent analyses of protein structures and their functions. 展开更多
