This paper addresses the tracking control problem of a class of multiple-input–multiple-output nonlinear systems subject to actuator faults.Achieving a balance between input saturation and performance constraints, rather than conducting isolated analyses, especially in the presence of frequently encountered unknown actuator faults, becomes an interesting yet challenging problem.First,to enhance the tracking performance,Tunnel Prescribed Performance(TPP)is proposed to provide narrow tunnel-shape constraints instead of the common over-relaxed trumpet-shape performance constraints.A pair of non-negative signals produced by an auxiliary system is then integrated into TPP,resulting in Saturation-tolerant Prescribed Performance(SPP)with flexible performance boundaries that account for input saturation situations.Namely,SPP can appropriately relax TPP when needed and decrease the conservatism of control design. With the help of SPP,our developed Saturation-tolerant Prescribed Control(SPC)guarantees finite-time convergence while satisfying both input saturation and performance constraints, even under serious actuator faults.Simulations are conducted to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed SPC. 展开更多

The problem of prescribed performance tracking control for unknown time-delay nonlinear systems subject to output constraints is dealt with in this paper. In contrast with related works, only the most fundamental requirements, i.e., boundedness and the local Lipschitz condition, are assumed for the allowable time delays. Moreover, we focus on the case where the reference is unknown beforehand, which renders the standard prescribed performance control designs under output constraints infeasible. To conquer these challenges, a novel robust prescribed performance control approach is put forward in this paper.Herein, a reverse tuning function is skillfully constructed and automatically generates a performance envelop for the tracking error. In addition, a unified performance analysis framework based on proof by contradiction and the barrier function is established to reveal the inherent robustness of the control system against the time delays. It turns out that the system output tracks the reference with a preassigned settling time and good accuracy, without constraint violations. A comparative simulation on a two-stage chemical reactor is carried out to illustrate the above theoretical findings. 展开更多

This paper develops a comprehensive computational modeling and simulation framework based on Complex Adaptive Systems(CAS)theory to unveil the underlying mechanisms of self-organization,nonlinear evolution, and emergence in social systems.By integrating mathematical models,agent-based modeling, network dynamic analysis, and hybrid modeling approaches, the study applies CAS theory to case studies in economic markets, political decision-making,and social interactions. The experimental results demonstrate that local interactions among individual agents can give rise to complex global phenomena, such as market fluctuations, opinion polarization, and sudden outbreaks of social movements. This framework not only provides a more robust explanation for the nonlinear dynamics and abrupt transitions that traditional models often fail to capture, but also offers valuable decision-support tools for public policy formulation, social governance, and risk management.Emphasizing the importance of interdisciplinary approaches, this work outlines future research directions in high-performance computing, artificial intelligence, and real-time data integration to further advance the theoretical and practical applications of CAS in the social sciences. 展开更多

Steam power systems(SPSs)in industrial parks are the typical utility systems for heat and electricity supply. In SPSs,electricity is generated by steam turbines, and steam is generally produced and supplied at multiple levels to serve the heat demands of consumers with different temperature grades,so that energy is utilized in cascade. While a large number of steam levels enhances energy utilization efficiency,it also tends to cause a complex steam pipeline network in the industrial park.In practice,a moderate number of steam levels is always adopted in SPSs,leading to temperature mismatches between heat supply and demand for some consumers. This study proposes a distributed steam turbine system(DSTS)consisting of main steam turbines on the energy supply side and auxiliary steam turbines on the energy consumption side, aiming to balance the heat production costs, the distance-related costs, and the electricity generation of SPSs in industrial parks.A mixed-integer nonlinear programming model is established for the optimization of SPSs,with the objective of minimizing the total annual cost(TAC).The optimal number of steam levels and the optimal configuration of DSTS for an industrial park can be determined by solving the model.A case study demonstrates that the TAC of the SPS is reduced by 220.6×10^(3)USD(2.21%)through the arrangement of auxiliary steam turbines. The sub-optimal number of steam levels and a non-optimal operating condition slightly increase the TAC by 0.46%and 0.28%,respectively.The sensitivity analysis indicates that the optimal number of steam levels tends to decrease from 3 to 2 as electricity price declines. 展开更多

This paper presents a risk-informed data-driven safe control design approach for a class of stochastic uncertain nonlinear discrete-time systems. The nonlinear system is modeled using linear parameter-varying(LPV)systems.A model-based probabilistic safe controller is first designed to guarantee probabilisticλ-contractivity(i.e.,stability and invariance)of the LPV system with respect to a given polyhedral safe set.To obviate the requirement of knowing the LPV system model and to bypass identifying its open-loop model, its closed-loop data-based representation is provided in terms of state and scheduling data as well as a decision variable. It is shown that the variance of the closedloop system,as well as the probability of safety satisfaction, depends on the decision variable and the noise covariance.A minimum-variance direct data-driven gain-scheduling safe control design approach is presented next by designing the decision variable such that all possible closed-loop system realizations satisfy safety with the highest confidence level. This minimum-variance approach is a control-oriented learning method since it minimizes the variance of the state of the closed-loop system with respect to the safe set,and thus minimizes the risk of safety violation.Unlike the certainty-equivalent approach that results in a risk-neutral control design, the minimum-variance method leads to a risk-averse control design. It is shown that the presented direct risk-averse learning approach requires weaker data richness conditions than existing indirect learning methods based on system identification and can lead to a lower risk of safety violation. Two simulation examples along with an experimental validation on an autonomous vehicle are provided to show the effectiveness of the presented approach. 展开更多

In this paper,fixed-time consensus tracking for mul-tiagent systems(MASs)with dynamics in the form of strict feed-back affine nonlinearity is addressed.A fixed-time antidistur-bance consensus tracking protocol is proposed, which consists of a distributed fixed-time observer,a fixed-time disturbance observer,a nonsmooth antidisturbance backstepping controller, and the fixed-time stability analysis is conducted by using the Lyapunov theory correspondingly. This paper includes three main improvements.First,a distributed fixed-time observer is developed for each follower to obtain an estimate of the leader’s output by utilizing the topology of the communication network.Second,a fixed-time disturbance observer is given to estimate the lumped disturbances for feedforward compensation. Finally,a nonsmooth antidisturbance backstepping tracking controller with feedforward compensation for lumped disturbances is designed. In order to mitigate the“explosion of complexity”in the tradi-tional backstepping approach,we have implemented a modified nonsmooth command filter to enhance the performance of the closed-loop system. The simulation results show that the pro-posed method is effective. 展开更多

Aiming at the tracking problem of a class of discrete nonaffine nonlinear multi-input multi-output(MIMO) repetitive systems subjected to separable and nonseparable disturbances, a novel data-driven iterative learning control(ILC) scheme based on the zeroing neural networks(ZNNs) is proposed. First, the equivalent dynamic linearization data model is obtained by means of dynamic linearization technology, which exists theoretically in the iteration domain. Then, the iterative extended state observer(IESO) is developed to estimate the disturbance and the coupling between systems, and the decoupled dynamic linearization model is obtained for the purpose of controller synthesis. To solve the zero-seeking tracking problem with inherent tolerance of noise,an ILC based on noise-tolerant modified ZNN is proposed. The strict assumptions imposed on the initialization conditions of each iteration in the existing ILC methods can be absolutely removed with our method. In addition, theoretical analysis indicates that the modified ZNN can converge to the exact solution of the zero-seeking tracking problem. Finally, a generalized example and an application-oriented example are presented to verify the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed process. 展开更多

This article studies the fault detection filtering design problem for Roesser type two-dimensional(2-D)nonlinear systems described by uncertain 2-D Takagi-Sugeno(T-S)fuzzy models.Firstly, fuzzy Lyapunov functions are constructed and the 2-D Fourier transform is exploited, based on which a finite frequency fault detection filtering design method is proposed such that a residual signal is generated with robustness to external disturbances and sensitivity to faults. It has been shown that the utilization of available frequency spectrum information of faults and disturbances makes the proposed filtering design method more general and less conservative compared with a conventional nonfrequency based filtering design approach. Then, with the proposed evaluation function and its threshold,a novel mixed finite frequency H_(∞)/H_(-)fault detection algorithm is developed, based on which the fault can be immediately detected once the evaluation function exceeds the threshold. Finally,it is verified with simulation studies that the proposed method is effective and less conservative than conventional non-frequency and/or common Lyapunov function based filtering design methods. 展开更多

In this paper,a new optimal adaptive backstepping control approach for nonlinear systems under deception attacks via reinforcement learning is presented in this paper. The existence of nonlinear terms in the studied system makes it very difficult to design the optimal controller using traditional methods. To achieve optimal control,RL algorithm based on critic–actor architecture is considered for the nonlinear system.Due to the significant security risks of network transmission, the system is vulnerable to deception attacks, which can make all the system state unavailable.By using the attacked states to design coordinate transformation, the harm brought by unknown deception attacks has been overcome. The presented control strategy can ensure that all signals in the closed-loop system are semi-globally ultimately bounded. Finally, the simulation experiment is shown to prove the effectiveness of the strategy. 展开更多

We propose a new method for robust adaptive backstepping control of nonlinear systems with parametric uncertainties and disturbances in the strict feedback form. The method is called dynamic surface control. Traditional backstepping algorithms require repeated differentiations of the modelled nonlinearities. The addition of n first order low pass filters allows the algorithm to be implemented without differentiating any model nonlinearities, thus ending the complexity arising due to the 'explosion of terms' that makes other methods difficult to implement in practice. The combined robust adaptive backstepping/first order filter system is proved to be semiglobally asymptotically stable for sufficiently fast filters by a singular perturbation approach. The simulation results demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the controller designed by the method. 展开更多

A new type controller, fuzzy neural networks sliding mode controller (FNNSMC), is developed for a class of large scale systems with unknown bounds of high order interconnections and disturbances. Although sliding mode control is simple and insensitive to uncertainties and disturbances, there are two main problems in the sliding mode controller (SMC): control input chattering and the assumption of known bounds of uncertainties and disturbances. The FNNSMC, which incorporates the fuzzy neural networks (FNN) and the SMC, can eliminate the chattering by using the continuous output of the FNN to replace the discontinuous sign term in the SMC. The bounds of uncertainties and disturbances are also not required in the FNNSMC design. The simulation results show that the FNNSMC has more robustness than the SMC. 展开更多

In this paper, the adaptive robust tracking control scheme is proposed for a class of multi-input and multi-output (MIMO) non-affine systems with uncertain structure and parameters, unknown control direction and unknown external disturbance based on backstepping technique. The MIMO non-affine system is first transformed into a time-varying system with strict feedback structure using the mean value theorem, and then the bounded time-varying parameters are estimated by adaptive algorithms with projection. To handle the possible 'controller singularity' problem caused by unknown control direction, a Nussbaum function is employed, and the dynamic surface control (DSC) method is applied to solve the problem of 'explosion of complexity' in backstepping control. It is proved that the proposed control scheme can guarantee that all signals of the closed-loop system are bounded through Lyapunov stability theorem and decoupled backstepping method. This paper introduces an observer-based adaptive optimal control method for unknown singularly perturbed nonlinear systems with input constraints. First, a multi-Time scales dynamic neural network MTSDNN observer with a novel updating law derived from a properly designed Lyapunov function is proposed to estimate the system states. Then, an adaptive learning rule driven by the critic NN weight error is presented for the critic NN, which is used to approximate the optimal cost function. Finally, the optimal control action is calculated by online solving the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman HJB equation associated with the MTSDNN observer and critic NN. The stability of the overall closed-loop system consisting of the MTSDNN observer, the critic NN and the optimal control action is proved. The proposed observer-based optimal control approach has an essential advantage that the system dynamics are not needed for implementation, and only the measured input U+002F output data is needed. Moreover, the proposed optimal control design takes the input constraints into consideration and thus can overcome the restriction of actuator saturation. Simulation results are presented to confirm the validity of the investigated approach. © 2014 Chinese Association of Automation. 展开更多

The previous low-order approximate nonlinear formulations succeeded in capturing the stiffening terms, but failed in simulation of mechanical systems with large deformation due to the neglect of the high-order deformation terms. In this paper, a new hybrid-coordinate formulation is proposed, which is suitable for flexible multibody systems with large deformation. On the basis of exact strain- displacement relation, equations of motion for flexible multi-body system are derived by using virtual work principle. A matrix separation method is put forward to improve the efficiency of the calculation. Agreement of the present results with those obtained by absolute nodal coordinate formulation (ANCF) verifies the correctness of the proposed formulation. Furthermore, the present results are compared with those obtained by use of the linear model and the low-order approximate nonlinear model to show the suitability of the proposed models. 展开更多

A novel adaptive neural network (NN) output-feedback regulation algorithm for a class of nonlinear time-varying timedelay systems is proposed. Both the designed observer and controller are independent of time delay. Different from the existing results, where the upper bounding functions of time-delay terms are assumed to be known, we only use an NN to compensate for all unknown upper bounding functions without that assumption. The proposed design method is proved to be able to guarantee semi-global uniform ultimate boundedness of all the signals in the closed system, and the system output is proved to converge to a small neighborhood of the origin.
