In this paper, the mechanical response of a one-dimensional(1D)hexagonal piezoelectric quasicrystal(PQC)thin film is analyzed under electric and temperature loads.Based on the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory,a theoretical model is proposed, resulting in coupled governing integral equations that account for interfacial normal and shear stresses. To numerically solve these integral equations,an expansion method using orthogonal Chebyshev polynomials is employed. The results provide insights into the interfacial stresses, axial force,as well as axial and vertical deformations of the PQC film.Additionally, fracture criteria, including stress intensity factors, mode angles, and the J-integral,are evaluated. The solution is compared with the membrane theory, neglecting the normal stress and bending deformation. Finally, the effects of stiffness and aspect ratio on the PQC film are thoroughly discussed. This study serves as a valuable guide for controlling the mechanical response and conducting safety assessments of PQC film systems. 展开更多

The similarities and differences in inherent mechanism and characteristic frequency between the onedimensional(1D)poroelastic model and the layered White model were investigated. This investigation was conducted under the assumption that the rock was homogenous and isotropic at the mesoscopic scale. For the inherent mechanism, both models resulted from quasi-static flow in a slow P-wave diffusion mode, and the differences between them originated from saturated fluids and boundary conditions. On the other hand, for the characteristic frequencies of the models, the characteristic frequency of the 1D poroelastic model was first modified because the elastic constant and formula for calculating it were misused and then compared to that of the layered White model. Both of them moved towards higher frequencies with increasing permeability and decreasing viscosity and diffusion length. The differences between them were due to the diffusion length. The diffusion length for the 1D poroelastic model was determined by the sample length, whereas that for the layered White model was determined by the length of the representative elementary volume(REV).Subsequently,a numerical example was presented to demonstrate the similarities and differences between the models. Finally, published experimental data were interpreted using the 1D poroelastic model combined with the Cole-Cole model. The prediction of the combined model was in good agreement with the experimental data, thereby validating the effectiveness of the 1D poroelastic model.Furthermore, the modified characteristic frequency in our study was much closer to the experimental data than the previous prediction, validating the effectiveness of our modification of the characteristic frequency of the 1D poroelastic model. The investigation provided insight into the internal relationship between wave-induced fluid flow(WIFF)models at macroscopic and mesoscopic scales and can aid in a better understanding of the elastic modulus dispersion and attenuation caused by the WIFF at different scales. 展开更多

Evapotranspiration is the most important expenditure item in the water balance of terrestrial ecosystems, and accurate evapotranspiration modeling is of great significance for hydrological, ecological, agricultural, and water resource management.Artificial forests are an important means of vegetation restoration in the western Loess Plateau, and accurate estimates of their evapotranspiration are essential to the management and development of water use strategies for artificial forests. This study estimated the soil moisture and evapotranspiration based on the HYDRUS-1D model for the artificial Platycladus orientalis(L.)Franco forest in western mountains of Loess Plateau,China from 20 April to 31 October,2023.Moreover,the influence factors were identified by combining the correlation coefficient method and the principal component analysis(PCA)method. The results showed that HYDRUS-1D model had strong applicability in portraying hydrological processes in this area and revealed soil water surplus from 20 April to 31 October,2023.The soil water accumulation was 49.64 mm;the potential evapotranspiration(ET_(p))was 809.67 mm,which was divided into potential evaporation(E_(p);95.07 mm)and potential transpiration(T_(p);714.60 mm);and the actual evapotranspiration(ET_(a))was 580.27 mm,which was divided into actual evaporation(E_(a);68.27 mm)and actual transpiration(T_(a);512.00 mm). From April to October 2023,the ET_(p),E_(p),T_(p),ET_(a),E_(a),and T_(a) first increased and then decreased on both monthly and daily scales, exhibiting a single-peak type trend. The average ratio of T_(a)/ET_(a) was 0.88,signifying that evapotranspiration mainly stemmed from transpiration in this area. The ratio of ET_(a)/ET_(p) was 0.72,indicating that this artificial forest suffered from obvious drought stress. The ET_(p) was significantly positively correlated with ET_(a),and the R^(2) values on the monthly and daily scales were 0.9696 and 0.9635(P<0.05),respectively.Furthermore,ET_(a) was significantly positively correlated with temperature, solar radiation, and wind speed, and negatively correlated with relative humidity and precipitation(P<0.05);and temperature exhibited the highest correlation with ET_(a).Thus,ET_(p) and temperature were the decisive contributors to ET_(a) in this area. The findings provide an effective method for simulating regional evapotranspiration and theoretical reference for water management of artificial forests, and deepen understanding of effects of each influence factors on ET_(a) in arid areas. 展开更多

A novel one-dimensional(1D) analytical model is proposed for quantifying the breakdown voltage of a reduced surface field(RESURF) lateral power device fabricated on silicon on an insulator(SOI) substrate. We assume that the charges in the depletion region contribute to the lateral PN junctions along the diagonal of the area shared by the lateral and vertical depletion regions.Based on the assumption, the lateral PN junction behaves as a linearly graded junction, thus resulting in a reduced surface electric field and high breakdown voltage.Using the proposed model, the breakdown voltage as a function of device parameters is investigated and compared with the numerical simulation by the TCAD tools. The analytical results are shown to be in fair agreement with the numerical results. Finally,a new RESURF criterion is derived which offers a useful scheme to optimize the structure parameters. This simple 1D model provides a clear physical insight into the RESURF effect and a new explanation on the improvement in breakdown voltage in an SOI RESURF device. 展开更多

This paper presents a strategy for computation of super-convergent solutions of multi-dimensional problems in the finite element method (FEM) by recursive application of the one-dimensional (1D) element energy projection (EEP) technique. The main idea is to conceptually treat multi-dimensional problems as generalized 1D problems, based on which the concepts of generalized 1D FEM and its consequent EEP formulae have been developed in a unified manner. Equipped with these concepts, multi-dimensional problems can be recursively discretized in one dimension at each step, until a fully discretized standard finite element (FE) model is reached. This conceptual dimension-by- dimension (D-by-D) discretization procedure is entirely equivalent to a full FE discretization. As a reverse D-by-D recovery procedure, by using the unified EEP formulae together with proper extraction of the generalized nodal solutions, super-convergent displacements and first derivatives for two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) problems can be obtained over the domain. Numerical examples of 3D Poisson's equation and elasticity problem are given to verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed strategy. 展开更多

The semi-analytical solutions to Fredlund and Hasan's one-dimensional (1D) consolidation for unsaturated soils with a semi-permeable drainage boundary are pre- seated. Two variables are introduced to transform the two coupled governing equations of pore-water and pore-air pressures into an equivalent set of partial differential equations (PDFs), which are easily solved by the Laplace transform method. Then, the pore-water pressure, pore-air pressure, and soil settlement are obtained in the Laplace domain. The Crump method is adopted to perform the inverse Laplace transform in order to obtain the semi-analytical solutions in the time domain. It is shown that the proposed solutions are more applicable to various types of boundary conditions and agree well with the existing solutions from the literature. Several numerical examples are provided to investigate the consolidation behavior of an unsaturated single-layer soil with single, double, mixed, and semi-permeable drainage boundaries. The changes in the pore-air and pore-water pres- sures and the soil settlement with the time factor at different values of the semi-permeable drainage boundary parameters are illustrated. In addition, parametric studies are con- ducted on the pore-air and pore-water pressures at different ratios (the air permeability coefficient to the water permeability coefficient) and depths. 展开更多

A methodology for performance optimization of torque converters is put forward based on the one-dimensional (1D) flow model. It is found that the inaccuracy of 1D flow model for predicting hydraulic performance at the low speed ratio is mainly caused by the separation phenomenon at the stator cascade which is induced by large flow impinging at the pressure side of the stator blades. A semi-empirical separation model is presented and incorporated to the original 1D flow model. It is illustrated that the improved model is able to predict the circumferential velocity components accurately, which can be applied to performance optimization. Then, the Pareto front is obtained by using the genetic algorithm (GA) in order to inspect the coupled relationship among stalling impeller torque capacity, stalling torque ratio and efficiency. The efficiency is maximized on the premise that a target stalling impeller torque capacity and torque ratio are achieved. Finally, the optimized result is verified by the computational fluid dynamics(CFD) simulation, which indicates that the maximal efficiency is increased by 0.96%. 展开更多

Within the framework of continuum mechanics, the double power series ex- pansion technique is proposed, and a series of reduced one-dimensional (1D) equations for a piezoelectric semiconductor beam are obtained. These derived equations are universal, in which extension, flexure, and shear deformations are all included, and can be degen- erated to a number of special cases, e.g., extensional motion, coupled extensional and flexural motion with shear deformations, and elementary flexural motion without shear deformations. As a typical application, the extensional motion of a ZnO beam is analyzed sequentially. It is revealed that semi-conduction has a great effect on the performance of the piezoelectric semiconductor beam, including static deformations and dynamic be- haviors. A larger initial carrier density will evidently lead to a lower resonant frequency and a smaller displacement response, which is a little similar to the dissipative effect. Both the derived approximate equations and the corresponding qualitative analysis are general and widely applicable, which can clearly interpret the inner physical mechanism of the semiconductor in the piezoelectrics and provide theoretical guidance for further experimental design. 展开更多

Grain crushing plays an important role in one-dimensional (1D) compression and creep behaviors of granular materials under high stress. It is clear that the macro-properties of granular materials are closely related to the micro-fracture properties of grains in 1D compression and creep tests. In this paper, a series of 1D compression and creep tests were performed on Ottawa sand to investigate the deformation and grain crushing properties of granular materials, and it shows that the void ratio is correlated to the grain crushing amount (the quantity of crushed grains) for granular materials subjected to grain crushing. The test results, combining with the existing test data related to grain crushing of granular materials, were used to verify the relation. Moreover, the implications of these relations on the yield of granular material, and the equivalent effect of stress and time in changing soil fabric are presented. 展开更多

The finite difference method (FDM) was adopted to obtain numerical solutions for excess pore water pressure and average degree of consolidation. When non-Darcian flow is degenerated into Darcian flow, a comparison between numerical solutions and analytical solutions was made to verify reliability of finite difference solutions. Finally, taking into account the ramp time-dependent loading, consolidation behaviors with non-Darcian flow under various parameters were analyzed. We address the existence of surface solitons at an interface in a defocusing cubic medium with an imprinted one-dimensional (1D) composite Bessel optical lattice. This setting is composed of two Bessel lattices with different orders and different modulation depths, separated beside both sides of an interface. Stability analysis and numerical propagation simulations prove that solitons supported by the model are dynamically stable in the entire domain of their existence. The order of lattice determines the shape of soliton, and the amplitude of soliton depends on the lattice modulation depth. The experimental realization of the scheme is also proposed. Our results may provide another effective way of controlling the shapes of surface solitons and thus their evolutions by introducing a new freedom degree. 展开更多

In this study, 1D and 2D shallow-water models were coupled to simulate unsteady flow in channel networks and embayment. The 1D model solved the 1D shallow-water equations (St. Venant) using the Preissmann box method and targeted long narrow reaches of the river networks, while the 2D model targeted broad channels and embayment and solved the 2D shallow-water equations using a semi-implicit scheme applied to an unstructured grid of triangular cells. The 1D and 2D models were solved simultaneously by building a matrix for the free surface elevation at every 1D junction and 2D cell center. Velocities were then computed explicitly based on the results at the previous time step and the updated water level. The originality of the scheme arose from a novel coupling method. The results showed that the coupled 1D/2D model produced identical results as the full 2D model in classical to benchmark problems with considerable savings in computational effort. Application of the model to the Pearl River Estuary in southern China showed that complex patterns of tidal wave propagation could be efficiently modeled. 展开更多

Due to the high population density and economic property in urban environments, urban flooding can result in substantial economic losses. However, accurate urban flood modeling and assessing the associated damages are challenging due to complex urban layouts and rugged topography.Furthermore, the rapid development of urban underground spaces has introduced additional complexities. To address the demanding need for accurate flood modeling and damage assessment in cities,a fine-scale flood damage assessment method was proposed in this study, based on the 1D/2D coupled hydrodynamic model, which can not only assess the flood damage on the ground surface but also evaluate the flood loss in underground spaces.Taking the Gangxi drainage area in Wuhan City,China as a case, this study extensively discussed the flood inundation processes on the ground surface as well as in the buildings and underground spaces, under different rainfall scenarios with the return period ranging from 2 to 200 years.Based on the high spatial-temporal hydrodynamic simulations, the flood damage degrees were evaluated for the buildings and underground spaces with different industry types. The results indicated that the inundation of buildings and underground spaces in densely built cities cannot be neglected in urban flood modeling.Buildings with public service attributes can have a higher flood damage degree,as compared with other types of buildings and underground spaces. 展开更多

Periodic photonic structures can provide rich modulation in propagation of light due to well-defined band structures.Especially near band edges, light localization and the effect of near-zero refractive index have attracted wide attention. However, the practically fabricated structures can only have finite size,i.e.,limited numbers of periods, leading to changes of the light propagation modulation compared with infinite structures. Here,we study the size effect on light localization and near-zero refractive-index propagation near band edges in one-dimensional periodic structures.Near edges of the band gap,as the structure's size shrinks, the broadening of the band gap and the weakening of the light localization are discovered. When the size is small,an added layer on the surface will perform large modulation in the group velocity.Near the degenerate point with Dirac-like dispersion, the zero-refractive-index effects like the zero-phase difference and near-unity transmittance retain as the size changes, while absolute group velocity fluctuates when the size shrinks. 展开更多
