We use first-principles calculation to investigate the ideal strength and elastic behavior under the tensile and shear loads. The relation between the ideal strength and elastic constants is found. The uniaxial tension of NiAl and NiTi along <001> crystal direction leads to the change from tetragonal path to orthogonal path, which is driven by the vanishing of the shear constant C(66). The shear failure under {110}{111} shear deformation occurring in process of tension may result in a small ideal tensile strength(~ 2 GPa) for NiTi. The unlikeness in the ideal strength of Ni Al and Ni Ti alloys is discussed based on the charge density difference.展开更多

The purpose of the present investigations is to explore the effect of fsec laser fluence and ambient environments (Vacuum & 02) on the formation of LIPSS and conical structures on the Ti surface. The surface morphology was investigated by scanning electron microscope (SEM). The ablation threshold with single and multiple (N = 100) shots and the existence of an incubation effect was demonstrated by SEM investigations for both the vacuum and the 02 environment. The phase analysis and chemical composition of the exposed targets were performed by x-ray diffraction (XRD) and energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS), respectively. SEM investigations reveal the formation of LIPSS (nano & micro). FFT d-spacing calculations illustrate the dependence of periodicity on the fluence and ambient environment. The periodicity of nano-scale LIPSS is higher in the case of irradiation under vacuum conditions as compared to 02. Furthermore, the 02 environment reduces the ablation threshold. XRD data reveal that for the 02 environment, new phases (oxides of Ti) are formed. EDS analysis exhibits that after irradiation under vacuum conditions, the percentage of impurity element (A1) is reduced. The irradiation in the 02 environment results in 15% atomic diffusion of oxygen.展开更多

It is shown that the OB threshold can be manipulated by increasing the intensity of coupling field. The dependence of the shift of OB hysteresis curve on probe wavelength detuning is then explored. In order to demonstrate controllability of the OB in this SDQW, we compare the OB features of three different configurations which could arise in this SDQW scheme, i.e., K-type, Y-type, and inverted Y-type systems. Based on the phonon density of state, the thermodynamic properties of the present compounds are studied under different pressures and at different temperatures. The structural parameters including the bond lengths and bond angles are in agreement with available experimental measurements and theoretical calculations. We employ the elastic theory to calculate the nine independent elastic constants(C_(ij)) and the derived elastic moduli(B, G, E, v). Results indicate that these X_2N_2O(X = C, Si, Ge) compounds are mechanically stable and show the brittle behaviors. The electronic properties of the present compounds are analyzed by using the band structure and density of states. The phonon dispersion calculations imply that the present compounds are dynamically stable. Based on the quasi-harmonic approximation, the calculations of the specific heat indicate that the temperature in a range of 0 K–1500 K and pressure in a range of 0 GPa–40 GPa have a large effect on the thermal quantities of Ge_2N_2O,compared with on those of the C_2N_2O and Si_2N_2O compounds.展开更多

It is found that the structural growth model of the RhN clusters transforms from double layers (N = 12-16) to three layers (N : 17-19). Three different adsorption types are the atop site adsorption for N = 6, 8, 9, 11, 12, the bridge site adsorption for N : 2-5, 7, 10, 13-15, 17 and the face adsorption for N = 16, 18, 19. The adsorption abilities of RhN clusters are related to C-O bond length, vibrational frequency, adsorption energy and the charge transfer between CO and Rh clusters as well as the electronic density of state. With the increase of Rh cluster size, the adsorption energy of CO adsorbed on RhN clusters tends to be 2.2 eV-2.3 eV, which is 0.2 eV-0.3 eV larger than the theoretical value (about 2.0 eV) of CO molecule adsorption on clean Rh (111) surface.展开更多

The analytical results show that the plasma wave generation is substantially influenced by the lateral direction (width of the transistor), gate leakage current and 'viscosity. The injection from the gate (opposed to the gate leakage current) can improve the plasma oscillations and their amplitude with respect to ordinary transistors. We also estimate, which to our best knowledge has been derived for the first time, the total power emitted by the transistor and the emitted pattern which qualitatively gives reasonable agreement with the experimental data. The results show that the radiated power depends on various parameters such as drift velocity, momentum relaxation time, gate leakage current and especially the lateral direction. The zirconium targets were exposed for a varying number of laser pulses ranging from 500 to 2000 at a fixed fluence of 3.6 J/cm^2 corresponding to an intensity of 1.2×10^14W/cm^2 in ambient environments of deionized water and propanol. A scanning electron microscope(SEM) was employed to investigate the surface morphology of the irradiated zirconium. The SEM analysis shows the formation of various kinds of features including nanoscale laser induced periodic surface structures(LIPSS), sponge like surface structure, flakes, conical structures, droplets, pores, and cavities. The energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy(EDS) analysis exhibits the variation in chemical composition along with an enhanced diffusion of oxygen under both ambient conditions. The crystal structure and phase analyses of the exposed targets were explored by x-ray diffraction(XRD) and Raman spectroscopy techniques, respectively. The XRD analysis confirms the presence of various phases of zirconium hydride and zirconia after ablation in both de-ionized water and propanol. However, excessive hydrides are formed in the case of propanol. The Raman analysis supports the EDS and XRD results. It also reveals the presence of oxides(zirconia) after irradiation in both de-ionized water and propanol environments. The chemical reactivity of zirconium was significantly improved in the presence of liquids which were accountable for the growth of novel phases and modification in the chemical composition of the irradiated Zr. A nanohardness tester was employed to measure the nanohardness of the laser treated targets. The initial increase and then decrease in nanohardness was observed with an increase in the number of laser pulses in the de-ionized water environment. In the case of propanol,a continuous decrease in hardness was observed.展开更多

文摘White organic light-emitting diodes(OLEDs)are promising candidates for future solid-state lighting applications and backplane illumination in large-area displays. One very specific feature of OLEDs,which is currently gaining momentum,is that they can enable tunable white light emission. This feature is conventionally realized either through the vertical stacking of independent OLEDs emitting different colors or in lateral arrangement of OLEDs.The vertical design is optically difficult to optimize and often results in efficiency compromises between the units. In contrast, the lateral concept introduces severe area losses to dark regions between the subunits, which requires a significantly larger overall device area to achieve equal brightness. Here we demonstrate a color-tunable,two-color OLED device realized by side-by-side alignment of yellow and blue p-i-n OLEDs structured down to 20μm by a simple and up-scalable orthogonal photolithography technique. This layout eliminates the problems of conventional lateral approaches by utilizing all area for light emission. The corresponding emission of the photo-patterned two-unit OLED can be tuned over a wide range from yellow to white to blue colors. The independent control of the different units allows the desired overall spectrum to be set at any given brightness level.Operated as a white light source, the microstructured OLED reaches a luminous efficacy of 13 lm W^(−1) at 1000 cd m^(−2) without an additional light outcoupling enhancement and reaches a color rendering index of 68 when operated near the color point E.Finally,we demonstrate an improved device lifetime by means of size variation of the subunits.
