By introducing a combined heat-transfer coefficient between the gas and solid phase, a heat transfer model is built based on the thin-walled assumption. The dimensionless thermal equation is deduced by considering solid heat conduction along the passage length. The asymptotic analysis is used for the small parameter of heat conduction term in equation. The first order asymptotic solution to temperature distribution under weak solid heat conduction is achieved after Laplace transformation through the multiple scales method and the symbolic manipulation function in MATLAB. Semi-analytical solutions agree with tests and finite-difference numerical results. It is proved possible for the asymptotic analysis to improve the effectiveness, economics and precision of thermal research on regenerator.展开更多

Stable nanofluids are formulated by using the high shear mixing and ultrasonication methods. They are then characterised for their size, surface charge, thermal and rheological properties and tested for their convective heat transfer behaviour. Mathematical modelling is performed to simulate the convective heat transfer of nanofluids using a single phase flow model and considering nanofluids as both Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluid. Both experiments and mathematical modelling show that nanofluids can substantially enhance the convective heat transfer. Analyses of the results suggest that the non-Newtonian character of nanofluids influences the overall enhancement, especially for nanofluids with an obvious non-Newtonian character.展开更多

We apply the particlediscrete phase model to model the solid particles flow, and use the Euler conservation equations to solve thecontinuous phase. The investigation is focused on the influence of the solid particle parameters (such as particlediameter, particle velocity and particle trajectory) on the erosion rate of the stator and rotor blade surface in unsteadycondition. The distributions of the highly eroded zone on the stator and rotor blade surfaces are shown anddiscussed in detail according to the mechanism of solid particle/blade wall interaction. We obtain that the erosionrate of the vane blade is sensitive to the fluctuation of the potential flow field, and the smaller particle has agreater impact on the erosion distribution of rotor blade. The erosion rate does not entirely depend on the diametersize of the solid particle.展开更多

To eliminate the danger of a material failure, a semi-active thermal protection system is proposed by integrating a metallic heat pipe into the structure of the leading edge. An analytical heat-balance model is established from traditional aerodynamic theories, and then thermal and mechanical characteristics of the structure are studied at Mach number 6–8 for three refractory alloys, Inconel 625, C-103, and T-111. The feasibility of this simple analytical method as an initial design tool for hypersonic aircraft is assessed through numerical simulations using a finite element method. The results indicate that both the isothermal and the maximum temperatures fall but the von Mises stress increases with a longer design length of the leading edge. These two temperatures and the stress rise remarkably at a higher Mach number. Under all investigated hypersonic conditions, with a 3 mm leading edge radius and a0.15 m design length, the maximum stress exceeds the yield strength of Inconel 625 at Mach numbers greater than 6, which means a material failure. Moreover, both C-103 and T-111 meet all requirements at Mach number 6–8.展开更多

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the thermal shock damage of CVD ZnS through a finite element method and oxygen propane flame experiments. The finite element model is developed to simulate the temperature and thermal stress fields by an oxygen propane flame. Then, the thermal shock experiments are performed to investigate the thermal shock damage behavior. The results show that the temperature rising rate of the shock surface is fast during the initial heating stage resulting in high thermal stress. After the thermal shock experiment, the scanning electron microscope (SEM) photographs shows that the shock surface of the specimen becomes rough and the microcracks occur in the thermal shock zone. Good agreements are achieved between the numerical solutions and the experimental results.展开更多

The 3D Reynolds-Averaged gas-liquid two-phase flow control equation solver is explored with k-e-kp turbulence model. Furthermore, 3D flow numerical simulation on the last stage stator of the steam turbine is carried out. The results show that a sudden pressure rise on blade suction surface is mainly caused by the droplet growth in condensation flow. The more backward the condensation position is in cascade passage, the less the sudden pressure rise from condensation is, and the larger the nucleation rate is, the maximum under-cooling and the number of droplets per unit volume are. Interaction of condensation wave and shock wave has imposed greater influence on the parameters of the blade cascade outlet.展开更多
